ParticipantHi 😉
I posted a problem last month re this washer dryer. The Machine is about eighteen months old. The great help from this forum indicated a heater element as the problem (the machine ran all night and would not complete its cycle).I got the machine repaired by Hotpoint as the parts were under gurantee and by the time I bought the part and replaced it I was only saving 30Euro the total repair bill was around 120Euro. The problem I have this time with the machine 👿 is that the machine is tripping the mains ELCB. I checked the heater element with a d.v.m not a Megger and the resistance measurement to earth is about 19meg. On plugging in the machine after a second or so I hear what appears to be a small click–pop in the guts of the machine I cannot see a spark>? The machine was completing a hand wash! and there was a lot of suds in the machine, a lot more than usual!. Instuctions were followed for the Wasing Powder. I do not want to spend another 120Euro on this machine as I may have another problem next month. What should I isolate to locate the leakage path?. ❓ .Hotpoint bad bad 👿
Regards

call hotpoint back in the repair on the element they fitted should be under guarantee so if its the same fault should not be a charge.

The problem is solved the heater element has a leak to earth there was too much tension on the leads to the element . The element is quiet loose in the dryer unit I can move it up and down as if something came loose in the dryer box. I have not completed the repair or looked in the box . When the service engineer came three weeks ago to replace the main heater element in the washer he also extended the leads to the dryer element which is now bust .
Another 120 if I call back the service engineer as its a new problem?.Joe

No, the repair man did not do the job properly so you should not pay again. I would suggest you tell Hotpoint call centre staff that it’s the same symptoms as before then when someone comes to do the job you can tell them what’s happening now. They usually put a label in the inside of the lid saying what work was done so there should be evidence that this part was previously serviced.

When hotpoint repair an appliance they give the whole machine a 14 days warranty, however the repair that hey cary out comes with a full 12 months warranty.

ParticipantHi
If I could explain this dryer element was not broken when the service engineer came only the leads were tight (bad manufacture) he came to replace the main washer element not the dryer element
the leads only to this now broken element were replaced
as they were under strain.

My guess would be that the tight wires caused the dryer heater to be damaged or work loose and the engineer failed to spot this secondary damage.

hi, if the dryer heater is that loose then it will need a new element up there too, however, as stripey said, the whole machine would have only been covered for 14 days from the first repair,

Is there any point complaining to Hotpoint about the tight wires hence damaged heater
