ParticipantThis is a frost free American style fridge freezer with a small freezer on top and large fridge below. It is about 5-7 years old and has been fine until now. I’ll try and describe what’s happened so far;
1. The fridge started by getting noisy. I originally assumed that it was a fan on the way out but in hindsight it was ice blocking the fan. This continued for a few days before the noise stopped and water started appearing in the bottom of the fridge dripping down through the vent at the back. If this water is not cleaned out after a few days it freezes in the bottom of the fridge.
2. We called out our local fridge guy who opened up the freezer saw all the ice told us to defrost it overnight and told us not to call him again because he didn’t know anything else about frost free models.
3. So we defrosted it overnight but still the water appeared in the bottom when we started using it again.
4. I then did some research on here (very informative!) and decided to defrost the unit for 2 days and made sure that all the ice was gone. We started using it again and hey presto everything was fine… for a couple of weeks before it started appearing again.
I’ve opened the back of the freezer and had a look inside and I can see that the freezer isn’t frozen up and that both fans are working.
So what are my choices? Is it fixable, is it even worth fixing or do I just have to give in to my misses and buy a new one?
Cheers
Steve
ps I’m just north of Derby

Not sure if I’m reading you right, but is the problem that the puddle of water is reappearing?
If so, I’d guess you are looking for a blocked drain hole/pipe…..when the evaporator (“radiator” ) inside the cabinet, defrosts, the melted ice has to go somewhere….normally it’s led outside the cabinet to a collector-tray where it can evaporate. (sometimes this is a “pan” on top of the compressor and the water helps cool it.)I may be way off-beam, here,but there it is.

Participantthe dreain heater is poss u/s and i think in theses they are not accesable as a spare part as with many of the same korean made units.
I havnt sen these around for years and as they were the same price as the now usa cabinets would guess that they are nolonger sent to uk.

Yes the problem is that the water is still appearing. I’m mopping about half a cup out every other day.
All the rear of the unit is sealed an inaccessible and the only access is through the back of the inside of the freezer.
I’ll try to see if I can see the drain and check for blockages.
So assuming I don’t get anywhere am I just better off giving it up as a bad job or is it worth trying to get someone who knows what they are doing to come and have a look?
