Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Toploader Won’t Spin

Got a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II that won’t spin properly. I’ve taken the plastic agitator off and watched the main spindle as I turned it to spin cycle and it moved extremely slowly. What can I look for/do next????

I assume you have normal agitation on wash? If yes, with the paddle removed, grab the splines and try and turn the shaft. If you can turn it in either direction the gearbox is damaged.

The machine now refuses or is very slow to spin at anytime (wash, spin any preset or programme).

Did you check as above? Failing that the drive coupling between the motyr and gearbox may have failed.

Sorry, forgot to mention splines will not move when attempting to turn them.

The gearbox in the top loader, what is involved in swapping one out… new gear box and motor here but never changed one…

any advice…
