    Hi

    Frigidaire fridge/freezer FR34H – freezer door was left slightly open spoiling food – so we defrosted it completely. Now freezer works, fridge doesn’t (since last weekend). Pulled away from wall & checking the back the black thing at the bottom (compressor?) is running hot – so hot that a plastic collar around the top of it is slightly burnt.

    Any ideas? Reckon it’s solvable – the machine’s pretty old, getting on for 20 yearsish.

    This will more likely be a restriction caused by the door being left open and the compressor then continually running and overheating partly with age and pumping oil through the system.

    At this age buy a new one as the insulation will probably failed which would have caused a small ice ball normally just above the fridge drain channel or just behind the salad box.

    Thanks, Bryan, much appreciated – will take your advice and get another fridge/freezer.
