ParticipantHi Guys.
My Hotpoint 1000 deluxe (9934) washerdryer as finally died a death,after 17+years.
so was thinking of replacing with the WD420, hope I get the same number of years out of this, but is that wishful thinking ❓

Sadly Hotpoint washing machines are no longer built to last and very few people in the trade would recommend one these days. If you can remember how much you paid for the old machine you should try to avoid paying less than that for the new one. I would consider a Bosch or a Zanussi to be a better buy.

The heater blower as packed up ( heater still works, the top of the unit gets really hot) plus it makes loud knocking noise on fast spin.
Is it worth fixing ❓ , and can you still get the spares for the 9934

KeymasterLet me put it this way kk…
New Horpoint’s are Indesits in fancy dress. As yet I’ve to see one that’s any use and they appear to be built to last about 3-5 years but give them any abuse and they won’t see that out.
The parts for your old one you can probably get but it sounds as if you’d be needing the suspension or bearings and a fan motor and, in all good conscience, I’d struggle to advise repairs to that degree on a machine that age. That said it’s likely a lot better than what you’d be buying now.
To get a real feel for our undying love for washer dryers have a read of this article and you ill get a flavour of what we think of them.
Bear in mind that 17 years ago that machine would have cost at least £400, now add inflation etc. and you’ll quickly realise that a £400 Hotpoint nowadays is a totally different animal. In fact, it’s not even on the same planet.
Saying that buy washer dryers, everyone please as we really need the business. 😉

Yes, you can still get the bits and yes, it could well be worth fixing. The fan motor might just need brushes. The noise might be a broken drum support spider but is still worth doing. I would take a look at the underside of the machine where the suspension units are bolted on. If the base of the cabinet is cracked at these points I would scrap it but that problem was more common on the washing machines than the washer dryers.
