Dolce & Gabbana has just launched a collaboration between fellow Italian brand, fridge manufacturer Smeg.
There’s no obvious reason how this collaboration came to pass, but each of the 100 hand-painted FAB28R-DG fridges has been decorated by local Sicilian artists ready for Milan-based furniture fair, Salone Internazionale del Mobilen.
Most of us will never be able to have one though and, no not because it is outstandingly ugly but because there’s only 100 of them being made and they cost an eye-watering, breath taking £30,000 a pop. Yes, you did read that correctly, £30,000!
Dolce & Gabbana tells us “The collaboration between the premium appliance manufacturer and world famous fashion house has materialised through a united passion for ‘Made in Italy’ excellence, a deep respect for family tradition and the importance of maintaining local roots.”
Previously Smeg has collaborated with an unusual partner, though – it worked with BMW to build a fridge inspired by a Mini Cooper, and there was a crystal-encrusted, gold-handled effort built with Swarovski, but this is its first time with a fashion brand.
Now, all that remains is for the 100 people with not a lot of taste and a lot of money to step up and buy one.
