ParticipantI have been having problems with the lid on the detergent compartment. Sometimes it would slide over but then spring open. Cleaned the slides and the container and it would then stay shut.
However now it just won’t stay closed at all. It looks like the compartment needs replacing.
Looking at it it appears to me that I need to remove the inner stainless lining of the door (are these Torx screws?) to find the fixings for the container. Is this a straighforward job?

Yes you will need a torx screwdriver bit to undo the screws.Once you get the door off you will see the fixings for the dispenser.
Unplug the machine if you attempt this as the wiring behind the door is live!!!!

Hi
Usually the spring of the flap gets mangled. A kit p/no 166630 is available.
All can be done without taking door apart, but it can be a fiddle 😉
Worse case scenario you may need a new dispenser p/no 490467.
These spares are available by contacting spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if required.Caution when removing and installing the dispenser unit as the stainless steel edges are quite sharp ❗

At the moment I’m still trying to see how the flap comes off without breaking it – does it slide off or is it a question of lifting it off from a particular point?
Although there’s a substantial price difference I’m just wondering if it’s not easier to replace the whole thing in one go. Are there any other parts of the compartment that are likely to fail meaning it’s better just to do that?
Thanks for the advice so far

Have got replacement unit in stainless inner liner.
White outer door panel is off – what order do I put these back together as hinges are in closed position and can’t keep them open. Do I put these together and then fit to hinges or do I try and fit the liner to the hinges and then fit the white front panel?
Thanks

Say what 😯
No need to take hinges off.
Only remove outer white panel and thats it.
If you have removed hinges, then you will have to release the spring tension before attempting to refit them to stainless inner door, then fit white panel last.
Be careful of razor sharp edges of door inner ❗

Unfortunately I hadn’t realised and released the screws holding the hinges to the stainless door inner liner. How much more do I have to strip to release the door springs so that I can refit the liner?
Cheers

Now have machine on its back – before I do anything else (lesson learned from last time) How do the springs come out?

The springs are connected to two “L” shaped metal brackets at the back. Pull them out of the base to release the tension.

My fault – I got carried away with the screws and released the hinges. 😳 😳
If only the front white panel is released it’s a relatively quick job

Thanks for all the help. Machine has now run through a whole cycle successfully.
Don’t know whether it’s imagination but door does not close as quickly on spring tension as it used to, it seems to need a little bit of help until it’s just past the half way point – checked and the spring retainers are fully home and secure.

Make sure that the strings are routed round the rollers – the mechanism stiffens up if the strigs slip off. Remove lid (two catches at the back) and side panels (two screws on the front edges) to see.
