ParticipantHello everyone,
I have been searching in vain for a replacement housing for my Bosch BX32187GB vacuum which took a tumble down the stairs.
I’ve tried ordering through Bosch’s online spares site (bshappliancecare.com) and although the part (no. 447459) is listed as being available after ordering I was told it’s no longer manufactured. I’ve had the same story from another parts website so I’m not holding out much hope 🙁
Thanks in advance.

It was March 2007, off the top of my head.
Thanks

You have a 2 year guarantee but you will need to find receipt unless the FD number puts it within 2 years of manufacture.
If it is within 2 years then you need to get Bosch out to confirm the part is obsolete. If that is so then they should instigate a full replacement of the cleaner. 😀HTH

ParticipantAh – so if I understand you correctly, Bosch’s policy is that if they make spare parts unavailable whilst an appliance is under guarantee they are obliged to replace the appliance if they can’t provide the part?
Thanks again.

I would think that goes for any manufacturer to be honest. Obviously thats not the case when its under an extended cover.
IIRC manufacturers have to make spares available for at least ten years, some of the other guys on here are more qualified in this area and will put me and you straight if anything I have said is wrong or misleading.

It’s one of “those” grey areas Greg that no-one wants to talk about lest they get in trouble. 😉
As I understand it…
The manufacturer has to have cosmetic spares available for 6 years and functional spares for 8 years. That is a sweeping generalisation though and I’m not entirely sure that it is breaking the law as such if spares are not available for these timescales.
The manufacturer, again AIUI, has the option to replace or offer a concessionary sale at a reduced rate.
You have to bear in mind that consumer legislation has little to do with durability and there is not a guaranteed time which goods should last, appliances or otherwise.
HTH a bit.

Not if due to abuse! (like falling down stairs)
At least not for free. -
