could very well be the heater open circuit. I would also check for the blocked pressure chamber at front

    Re: Hoover softwave

Went back check heater its fine, pressure vessel clear,
not too sure on configeration for stats,
2 of off two the right hand side, big chucky stats,
first stat on left was open circuit, i imagine this impulses timer?
second stat to the right of the other was closed circuit

like i said in first post, it fills up, washes for about a min, then packs up
static, if you move timer on 1 notch it goes right through fine(so customer says)
after i come away i though of bridging the open stat out to see if it goes through ok?

might have to take this one away,

Have you found the model number yet Simon? Could sort out a wiring diagram once that is known?

    hi simon

these machines all had a 30 deg stat which should be o/c closing at 30 deg to start timer motor.
The first 1.5 min of the prog is just to ensure clothes well wetted.

There is usually a 60 and 90 deg n/c stats which supply the heater.

You should find that its violet wires to the 30

The 60/90 have a common wire gy/or which goes to the heater.

    Hope this helps

    Re: Hoover softwave

so if its the 30degree stat the pause after 1.5 min would be to heat the water, as its not closing to impulse timer, there would normally be a static boil but the 60/90 must be opening up to break heater after a while,

so in theory as a test the water should be heating up first then stops after 60/90 cuts out? to diagnose 30 stat failure?

maybe ill just change both stats as its prob going to be the fault as the timer motor is ok.

    Re: Hoover softwave

Its the 30 deg that closes after water reaches 30.

The 60/90 is closed to feed the heater so the heater heats up.

Once it reaches 30 the 30deg stat closes supplying the timer motor.

Depending on the prog the continued heating is dependendant on the time as the the hotter the prog the longer the the timer takes before it advances to a stage where it turns the heater off.

The 60/90 are there as a safety backup or temp reduction in the case of the 60.

Does your machine start to heat?
