I’ve got a Hotpoint RLAV21 larder fridge and I have noticed today that it is too warm inside(15 degrees C).

Over the last week I also heard the compressor running all the time but I thought it was just down to the warm weather.

No matter what I set the thermostat to the compressor doesn’t turn off. I’ve taken the cover off to get to the thermostat and if I unplug the wires to the thermostat and turn the fridge back on, the compressor doesn’t run. If I then turn the fridge off, plug the wires back in and turn the fridge on, the thermostat comes back on.

Does this sound as though the compressor is dead?

    Thanks.

if the compressor is running but not cooling it will be a gas leak/blockage

Thanks – I guess that is pretty terminal?

One thing I forgot to mention, the compressor is very hot, too hot to touch – does that indicate a fault?

    Thanks.

yes, it does not sound good, depends if you can get a local engineer to check the system, but on what was prob a £150 fridge, it could be an expensive fix, for a gas call prob £70 min
