Just thought I would pass on this as a tip for anyone drilling out pop rivets. If you have ever done this you will know that the rivet tends to just spin round with the drill bit, getting you nowhere fast :rolls: I had to drill out a rivet holding a triac to its heat sink yesterday and came up with the idea of using 2 drills. I held one drill with my fingers against the back of the rivet whilst drilling the front with the cordless drill. That way, even if it did spin with the front drill it would be drilled by the back one. If doing it in the workshop I would have put the bottom drill in the vice, pointing upwards.

Steel (as opposed to aluminium) pop rivets can often be held firmly in place prior to drilling if first you strike it’s shoulder edge with an automatic pin punch first. 😉
