ParticipantWent to a house to fix a whirlpool washing machine today. A man who lives on his own circa 40 years old. The house was a tip. Clothes on the floor everywhere. There were dishes everywhere and they must have been there a month as the food left over was covered in blue mould. i have never seen anything like it!
Funny thing was the man was spotless and clean

Ask her politely not to smoke in front of you!!!Failing that tell her that there is a danger of chemicals being released into the atmosphere and fart in her face!

Here in Ireland it would actually be illegal for a customer to smoke in front of me when doing a job as the area is classed as a work area.

I’ve actually had a Hotpoint washing machine that had obviously been used as a toilet so that you could see the urine level in the drum.
But to be fair cases like these are extremely rare.

I went to a job for a letting agent for a broken washing machine door hinge.Had keys to let myself in as no one was home. The place was disgusting mouldy plates everywhere the corner of the kitchen was piled up with rubbish where they had no bin (food stuff empty egg shells etc), floor was sticky with grease and dirt. Did not have a hinge so left filthy door bowl on work top.Came back 2 days later with hinge, but door was not where i left it so looked around cluttered kitchen and found door bowl on table half full of soup.

I went to one a while ago, door opened and the smell hit me like a punch in the face! Common sense didn’t kick in so I started breathing through my mouth and followed the guy into his kitchen. The whole floor was covered in a layer about half an inch thick with dog hairs and God knows what else.
I swear it was moving! 😯
Still, once in the kitchen I was faced with something out of a holocaust movie. Everything was covered in dust/grease you name it. Flies were everywhere.
The guy asked me if I wanted a cup of tea as he had just boiled the kettle, obviously a couple of my brain cells were still functioning because I said no.
It was at that point he stopped stirring his cup of tea and took out the teabag and threw it into a corner. Where there was already a two foot pile of mouldy, rotting, smelly teabags piled up against the cooker I was there to fix.Intelligence finally kicked in and I told him that I’d forgotten something from the van and I’d be right back.
Like I hell I did, I just got in drove!!!

Washers and dryers often as not share the same room with the family pet/s and having to shift the dog’s bed just to get at the washer is a certain clue. The accompanying aroma of urine pervades the air and all around and pet hairs in profusion. And that is just an everyday experience for us all I sure you will agree?
Picture then my delight when I called on a regular customer only to find it wasn’t her washing machine in her kitchen that had failed but the other one she has in the boarding kennels she runs in her back garden!
40 dogs and as many cats in a huge kennel block at one end of which is a cornered area with a washing machine and stacked dryer. The kennel blocks are hosed down daily, the urine drains into a huge gully shared by the washing machine outlet. The excrement is swept up and placed in a bio-degradable storage silo behind the building and just below where the dryer vent hose terminates. The stench in this vicinity is horrendous to put it mildly and the floor area permanently wet.
As luck would have it the fault was simply a busted door hinge so I was able to do that without touching anything else. Needless to say I won’t venture to that place again! 😉

There’s two calls I’ll never forget for this…
The first was in a place called Balloch where the “lady” of the house kept chickens… in the kitchen! It was disgraceful, as was the Candy washer in it and the worst of it was that there was a toddler running around oblivious to it all.
It really was a case of your boots sticking to the floor, like walking in treacle.
Needless to say I never returned.
The other was a house in the south side of Glasgow, a nice new build with an integrated fridge in it and, it stank at only About nine months old and, I do mean, stank. It was truly rancid. Of course it was one of those tiny kitchens that a cat would not be swung in.
Of course, as usual, the homeowner blamed the fridge despite being told that the fridge can’t smell like that. Pulled it out and found the mouldy horrid mess in the tray with the mould everywhere.
Then the story unfolded that she’d went on holiday and left her daughter at home who, apparently, spilled Ragu sauce in the damn thing a couple of months back, she was most apologetic after that.
I’ve never retched so bad though, it was truly disgusting.
There’s more too, like the puke in a Lux vac… :rolls:

Went to an Indesit a few years back, house stank and had to dance between the dog turds stuck up like ‘walnut whips’ to get to the machine.Tipped it up to find furry things underneath and mushrooms growing – announced the machine as scrap and departed.About a month later he bought a freezer off me. When I delivered it he said he’d had the kitchen done up with new cushion floor, when I went in- he had but straight on top of the walnut whips – you could feel them squidging underfoot.Ahh – lifes rich tableau !

ParticipantOne ill never forget went a few years ago during the really hot months of summer, had been called out to a dw in a top floor flat, customer had been away for weeks and cat sitter had been left to feed the cats. What I was not pepared for was the fact the kittys ate fresh salmon for brekkie and dinner and the lovely cat sitter had thrown the bowls and remains straight in the dishwasher. This subsquently blocked and had been left for 5 weeks to fester….. It was probably one of the worst things ive smelt in my life!!
Oh I pulled a rat out of someones 110 rangemater the other day that was taking a rest over the hot plate selector switch!!!

Not so much a dirty customer but a bit over zealous on cleaning. Dishwasher in a very hot conservatory and she must have filled it a large bottle of bleach as it was not draining and did,t want it to smell. Trouble was with that amount of bleach in a hot enclosed space it must of turned in to chlorine gas as when I opened the door I nearly collapsed with the fumes.
