ParticipantHello all, I used this site with great success to diagnose and replace a faulty cold water solenoid. Everything went well EXCEPT that I didn’t take the little seal off the old solenoid and put it on the new one before firing it up to see how clever I was.
After only a few seconds I noticed water pooling on the floor and then the power lights all went off and nothing since.
I suspect that the water has shorted something out in the main control board and possibly blown a fuse or something.
I have opened the control board and can see a small black cylinder that says fuse T4A 240V on the top of it. I am very reluctant to do any more as I have no electronic experience whatsoever.
Can anyone offer any advice as to the next step to fixing my wife’s beloved washing machine!May 27, 2008 at 11:46 pm #252999Penguin45

Marty,
You need a test meter and find out whether or not the fuse is intact. Don’t take this the wrong way, but if you really don’t know what you’re doing, it might be best to just pony up and get your local repairer in.Penguin45.

Thanks Penguin for the quick reply. I am saddling up said pony, donning my hat and spurs and heading down to local repair shop today. I bet they were running a sweep on how long it would take for me to walk back in with hat in hand. Will I never learn??? Still the whole operation has been quite enlightening and now I have one more area where I know enough to be dangerous but not nearly enough to be effective. GIDDEY UP!

Marty,
you did well to attempt a washing machine repair in the first place, only a handful of weekend warriors would do that so be proud my son.
Forgetting to replace the rubber seal on the inlet was a mistake but all of us die-hard do-it yourselfers have to learn from our errors.
If you have drowned the electronics all is not lost!!
My friend had a machine similar to yours and we scrounged a FREE working controller from a machine that somebody put out in a council clean up. Ebay can be a source of working, affordable used parts for whitegoods too.
Even if your good lady won’t wait for you to scrounge cheap spare parts look at it this way……..
If you had called in a service person in the first place (a competent one) you would have a working washer and you would be at least $200 worse off.
If your service person was a cowboy you would be even worse off and bear in mind that gw608 washer isn’t really valuable.
It’s probably cheaper to replace than call in a service person, Perhaps buy a working identical F&P and then you have a source of spares for your next repair job……..

If you use the Search facility correctly, you will find that re-con boards are availible at a considerable saving – if you are sure that’s what you need……
