ParticipantI replaced the dryer one shot stat on the above machine in January, it’s just gone again.
The customer assures me they do not stop the dryer mid cycle (as advised) and do not overload.
Is this just a case of the usual Hopoint reliability?
Also, while I was there I thought I would tighten the connector that goes onto the dryer NTC. Unlike the equivalent connectors on the PCB the one on the NTC broke apart! It still fits and appears to work, I have fitted the broken piece into the socket and the clip holds it all in place. I would rather replace this if available, can anyone tell me if this connector or part of the loom is available as a spare?

The complete heater box has been modified several times to cure various faults including constant TOC failure. Usual causes are blockages, loose or jamming fan etc.
The later heater box with the externally mounted in line TOC does seem to be less of a problem.
Clip does not appear to be available as a separate part.

Thanks Jim,
Have you got a part number for the modified box?
Is it just the casting or is it complete with fan, element & stats?June 1, 2008 at 3:53 pm #253384iadom

V3 heater box is a 1605710. Complete assembly.
Might be a good idea to order the seal as well, it often breaks up unless you are very careful when removing it.Seal is a 1604803.

Having read Jims post about the Version 3 heater box assy I fitted a version 3 heater box to a machine that had the version 2 (plastic fan type).
I have now read this from Hotpnt on another thread;
i have never yet seen a metal fan come loose, but you cannot fit that to a machine that has a plastic one, due to changes in several other parts plus the new parts would also require the module to be re-programmed
I haven’t had a recall from the customer but am obviously concerned that there may be a problem??
Any thoughts?

hi,did you change from plastic to metal or just the newer plastic one? its not advised to change from the plastic fan type to the metal fan set up, as the eeprom programmes are different for the 2 types,

The job so far;
A Hotpoint engineer drilled out and reset the one-shot stat in December.
I called a month ago to find one-shot had gone again. Cleaned out box assy and fitted new red spot one-shot.
New one-shot went a few drys later.
Fitted Version 3 box assy, metal fan type, in-place of plastic fan type.
Cheers.

drilled out stat? he should be the one drilled out!, when i checked with hotpoint technical i was told in no uncertain terms, do not change a plastic type to metal, if any of you have and it seems ok then i guess thats them proved wrong (not hard i know) but the main reasons seemed to be eeproms set up for different temps, plus the metal fan assy is meant to be used with a flushing valve, which was deleted on the version 2, oh so complicated!, all it needed was a keyed shaft on the fan motor!,

yeah, i cant personally see any real problems if your in the trade and know what your doing, after all there is still a safety cut out mounted on it, but would not advise in the public forums to go changing the spec of a machine,

I have fitted at least five complete heater boxes in the past 18 months/2 years without any comeback except for the very first one, the metal fan came loose after six months, a blob of loctite on the shaft, not heard from it since.
