ParticipantOur Indesit WD 12 appears to have died after a session of the programme selector rotating continuously part way through a washing cycle.
Unfortunately I did not take note of what the power light was doing at the time and the wife switched it off at the mains fairly quickly.
Having reset the machine we now have situation where the machined does absolutely nothing (apart from power light being on) when switched on, not even an error code (power light remains constant for at least an hour before I give up). If I move the programme dial on to another position, there is a delay but the dial begins to rotate until it reaches its original position……. and then sits there and does nothing.
Sometimes when turning the machine on the water inlet valves can be heard to open and then immediately shut.
The pressure sensing tube appears to not be blocked as I can blow down it freely.
I have not explored the motor or PCB yet, I’ll do that tomorrow evening.
Has anyone got any ideas or suggest things to check?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,

I forgot to mention that the door locks/unlocks as you would expect it to.

If the door is locking and the machine is still dead, then the most likely fault is defunct PCB. Common problem on Indesit washer driers (not forgetting the Hotpoint and Creda versions). The PCB is expensive……. 🙁
Hope that helps,
Steve.

Door locking and nothing else happening can be the carbon brushes in the motor. Info on motor brushes HERE.
The reliablity of the computer board is appalling though.
Stay safe – power off.

Checked the brushes and they are worn out, at the end of the sprung loaded travel.
Having taken then off and put them back on I thought I would see if that was just enough to re-seat them and prove it is the brushes ( past experience with a car alternator many years ago). Hey presto the machine springs back in to life. Boy did the take some explaining to the wife – a) why the worked and b) why she could not do any washing with the machine tonight :))
Many thanks for the help and suggestions. I’ll post again when I have identified, purchased and fitted new brushes to confirm that it was those that was causing the fault. If it isn’t then they need replacing anyway and its the lower of the two costs any way (Brushed/Control PCB)
Cheers.

THESE should be the ones.
Do not run the machine with a load until you have replaced them – you risk cooking the armature.

The description of the brushes is a little confusing. Is it a single “Carbon brush assembly” or is it a set of two “Indesit/Ariston Washer & Wash Dryer ICE Carbon Brushes”?
Please tell me if I am being thick?

From a Trade wholesale site I use:
“SUPPLIED AS A SINGLE ITEM 2 REQUIRED TO MAKE A PAIR”.I’d drop an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and order that way just to be on the safe side.
