ParticipantHave a Miele W698 washing machine that runs through the wash cycle but stops at the drain spin cycle.
Is this a problem with the pcb mtor drive board behind the front door panel?
Or is this just not enough current getting to the motor windings via the worn brushes?
Anybody come up with this fault on old Miele washing machines that are knocking on in age. Thanks chaps

Back again.
Have checked the brushes which are ok but now realise that the heating element is not coming on when the temp knob is turned up to 40* plus on the front panel.
Had the front panel hinged back and found that the heating element is reading infinity?
Miele prices are around £100-£122 for a new element when a normal one is around £25. Any good place to look for a replacement element at a more realistic price that fits in the W698?Many thanks

The root cause will be the water level collecting bell on the front of the drum – it will be choked. No spin/dead heater are classic symptoms.

Thanks Penquin45.
Well done, spot on.
Blocked as you had adviced, had suggested good old Calgon two years ago as the water in Norfolk is around 400ppm Ca and they don’t use a water softner.
Great flakes of scale found in the pump unit from the heater and the small water pressure pipe to valve nearly blocked. Thinking about using another make of heater and pushing the straight heating pipe through the original rubber seals to get around the £100 for a 2Kw heating element? Most heaters use the expanding plug with a single bolt, the Miele uses two crinkle washers to hold the tubuler heating element in place I thnk.

Bit of checking – you might like to drop a line to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for a price on p/no ML3402. Probably rather cheaper tha Miele’s own price.

Hi folks
Will email UK Whitegoods for a price as so far we are down to £95 plus P&P from other sources.
Wow all that for a straight element which does not come with an expander rubber and bolt.
Thanks again for all your help on Miele. Great website.Chris

Thanks Penguin45
UKWhitegoods came back very quickly with a price of £34.95 plus P&P which is closer for the couple to have it repaired plus labour.
As the machine was a close friend of the wife(who must always be obeyed) I thought I would hunt around for other sources of Miele parts in the EEC to get realistic prices for repairs in the future.
Nettoparts came up from Denmark on Google and they charged £22.64 for the heating element all in to the front door including VAT at 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in Denmark. But they have not replied to any of my emails or a fax at nettoparts@mail.dk Will leave alone for a while and some sniffing around.Heater fitted ok and W698 back up and running after cleaning out the white plastic pressure vessel as you had advised, masses of hardened crapp came out after a good boil up before refitting it to the drum.
Thanks again penguin45 as I did not find the element on the UKWhitegoods webpage and assumed they did not have it in stock,
Hence the Google searching.FlyingBrick
