ParticipantHi everyone,
We have a built-in fan oven, specifically the “Whirlpool Generation 2000+” – model number G2P62F/SS/01, serial number 854187015000.
Ever since we moved here (oven was already fitted), I knew it wasn’t cooking at the right temperature. I bought a cheapie oven thermometer, and according to that it was cooking at 20c less than the display showed. So if I set it to cook at 220c, it would actually be 200c.
No big deal, I thought, I’ll just set it 20c higher.. and all was well.
But recently it’s really started acting up, just now it took 45 mins to get to 200c. Noticed it a couple of days ago when trying to cook jacket spuds – even with a metal skewer in it and left in the oven for an hour at 250c (according to the display anyway), it was still raw in the middle. There’s 5 lights which gradually light up when it gets closer to temperature, and they’re all lighting up fine – it thinks it’s at temperature when in reality it’s nowhere near.
Just had a call out from a local engineer who took one look at me – woman on own – saw £ signs, and told me that I needed a new oven. He reckoned it’s the thermostat, but according to him they’re so expensive it’s not worth repairing. Surprise surprise, they sell and fit their own ovens!
Rant over, sorry!… anyway, I think I’ve found the thermostat for £54.99 online but not sure I’m looking at the right one? Would you say this is an accurate diagnosis, too?
I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty and repair it myself!
Many thanks for any advice.

It looks as though this oven has an electronic sensor instead of a normal capillary thermostat. Inside the oven this would look like a short length of pipe, squashed at the end, mounted on a rectangular plate screwed to the oven. To replace it you would also need access to the wires inside by removing the oven and taking off the back.
Part No. of this sensor is 481921078097.June 13, 2008 at 2:22 pm #254475Noctu

There is no thermostat, due to the electronic control system. Phidom is advising you to change the temperature sensor in the oven cavity.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification 🙂
So, would you also think it was this sensor?
I had another person out today who seemed genuine, he suggested getting a Whirlpool engineer out, and couldn’t really diagnose the fault?

They do fail…… There are only two links in the temperaure control chain – the sensor (£40 odd) and the pcb (£100 odd). The only pcbs I have ever changed have been ones damaged by element failure, not for temperature issues.

Did youresolve this problem? i have the same issue. The oven does seem to have thermostat as the spares websites list one for the whilpool oven.
