This fridge/freezer has worked fine since it was bought 8 years old however the compressor (made by Zem) has gone noisy, stays on for long periods of time and seems to be getting hot, I can’t touch it for any longer than 5 seconds because of the heat.
The fridge/freezer temperature doesn’t seem to have risen though.
Is the compressor on its way out or could something else be causing it?
    Thanks in advance

Could be either short of gas and not cooling or the valves in the compressor are duff and its not pumping. Either way you need someone with a set of fridge gauges to check it out.

    Thanks for the reply.
Am I right in saying this could end up being a costly repair.
The machine is actually my elderly mum’s who lives on her own and is a bit of a worrier, simple things like arranging engineers, listening to his report and making decisions are all very daunting for her.
Perhaps it may be less hassle for her to get a new machine?

Any idea of how much a callout and repair would be?

Spoke to my mum and told her that it needs attention and now she’s worried that the fridge will catch fire or something, bless her.

I know it’s difficult for people to make guesses without seeing things for themselves but could anyone hazard a guess what the price region of a repair might be. I promise I won’t quote you!
    pm if you prefer.
