ParticipantHello, found this site via Google in desperation.
I have a Hotpoint WD440 washer dryer and it appears to abort the programme at random leaving the machine in a locked state that can only be cleared by switching off the power.
I have already ensured that the filter is clear and determined that the machine will fill, empty and spin if tested but during the cycle it aborts but not at the same stage.Sometimes its just after the wash has begun, other times during the final spin or even while tumble drying.
The lights that flash are,Drying High Heat,Reduced Creases and Time Saver.
I hope someone can shed some light as my wife is at her wits end and we all know what that means 😥June 18, 2008 at 8:16 pm #255239helo_75
Participantlights 1,2 &4 by any chance? (counting from the top down)
the ntc on the dryer is the usual suspect
on the top, on the heater box.. looks a bit like this
http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … istor.htmlcheap and easy to repais, with the plug out of course

Got a new thermistor from a local shop, fitted it yesterday.Mrs said it did two 40 degree cycles ok but aborted again on the third.Shes certain it went 10-15 minutes into the wash.Same lights flashing.
I dusted off my multimeter and tested the wiring(used to be a sparks) and the element and motor but could find no hint of a fault, could it be the PCB ?July 19, 2008 at 1:08 pm #255243MJJ58

Got no further responce so called Hotpoint who could not come out for nearly two weeks, Mrs would’nt have that so we got a local chap in who spent some time fiddling about before telling us that it was the “control system” ? He did’nt seem totally confident but we let him order some parts that he charged us £110 for(inc labour). I was’nt home when he returned a couple of days later but the Mrs said he took the machine to pieces and was in our house about an hour before he pronounced it cured, and, touch wood, its still ok.
