ParticipantHi,
I have a problem with my Lavatherm condensing dryer. It sometimes makes a noise, which can only be described as a Whooooo type noise.
It is quite loud and as I said is not all the time.I have had the machine working with the door open and it can make the noise when the dryer is not spinning. It seems to be completely random.
Any ideas what it is?
You can hear the noise on the following link, the noise stops after 11 seconds.

Almost certainly the belt tension pulley on the motor grumbling. You could try lubrication, but replacement is usually the best cure.
Pulley is p/no 8996474081-03/2, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly.
Stay safe, power off if investigating.

Thanks for the reply.
Is the pulley easy to fit? Is access easy? Rough cost?

I think you can access it by removing the left hand side panel – been a few years since I did one…….

Ok, update..
I lubricated the tension pulley and the noise is still there. It seems to come from the grey box on the right of the video. There is sometimes the Whooo noise even when the motor stops turning when the drum changes direction.

Anymore ideas?
Thanks,

Hmm, beats the local Multiplex……. 😀
Front fan freewheeling instead of being secured to the shaft? You can see the clip at the front of the motor.

Glad you enjoy the entertainment 🙂
Not convinced it is the front fan now. Think it may be coming from the pump area (Think it is the pump, bottom of 2nd video where the water pipes are)
Of course now it’s not making so much noise with everything stripped 🙁
Thanks again,
Chris

Actually, lift pump would make sense, as it is powered independently of the drive motor – could well be running when a reverse takes place, also it’s not continuously driven, so the noise would come and go.

Ok had enough for tonight 😀
Will return to this in a few weeks once I’m back from my holidays in Edinburgh. Will have a look at the pump and give it a good clean and overhaul.
Thanks,
greetings from Holland,
Chris

Just to update this thread and put it to bed 🙂
Took the pump out and gave it a good clean. It was full of gunge, probably fluff.
Everything is back together and the noise is gone,
Thanks for your help,
Chris
