Hi Can anyone please help with this one ???
The wasing machine (Hotpoint WF 860 1600 spin) started peeing out water last night and on removing the small cover at the bottom rear of the mackine I notice the heating element was loose in fact it was out completely 😥
I’ve tried as I might to get the flamin thing back in but it won’t go, even put a little washin up liquid on the rubber seal but no it’s not playin the game.
Attached to the elememt is a little flat plate that rattles around I take it that shoud be attached to something inside the drum.
One of the 3 blue deflactor fins inside the washer had become detached too, a couple of the plastic holding clips have snapped so sometimes it comes off during washing, so I presume that, that is whats caused this problem to start with 😳
Are these fins availabe and if so how much, but more to the point do I need a new element or is it the way I’m tryin to get the damn thing back in ?
    Thanks Quinny

Whats caused the problem is more than likely not checking pockets. It sounds as though you have allowed some large coins or similar to get into the drum, this will have damaged the heater and drum lifters.

Ideally you would need to find out what has caused the damage first, you might find it inside the large black sump hose just below the heater, failing that, shine a torch into the drum through the holes underneath the drum lifters to make sure there is nothing still in the drum.

Then I would advise fitting a new heater and three new drum lifters, the others will almost certainly be damaged as well.

You may get the old heater back in if you slacken of the securing nut however I think you would struggle and if not careful it could pop out again.

THIS is the heater you require.

The drum lifters for your machine will be the Mk3 version, not yet in the Shop@, part number 1604464, an e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get you price and delivery costs etc.

Thanks Jim all sorted now I decided to get the proffessional on the Job and asked Simon of S.D.Electrical Services to take a look, he was recomemded by this site a while ago and my family and I have used his service on several occassions and he’s always done a top notch job and at a good price too (how many times can one say that in this day and age)
Yep you were right indeed there was an assortment of coins inside the sump and the main culprit was a Yale Key which Simon says caused most of the damage, it had bent the element in places.
Thanks for the reply Jim, much appreciated.
    Man I love this site… 😀

Look on the bright side! you got a few bob back, towards the repair, AND you saved the cost of having a new key cut! 😆
