ParticipantGot a really strnage problem with this condenser dryer, 1st call for No heat, Usual story Green spot down, replaced Stat kit and cleaned out vents and filter, removed evaporator and hosed out.
Two days later recall for No Heat? checked and found Green Spot down.
Advised customer to ensure that they did not shut the dryer down without the cool down taking place, replaced stat kit.One week later recall for No Heat?
No very puzzled, could it be that the motor was shutting down during a long drying cycle I wondered causing no air circulation and activation of the one shot stat.
Run the dryer for half and hour and no fault evident, Deciding that I was not going to be fitting anymore stat kits I collected the dryer for further testing at my workshop.
Replaced the stat kit and run for a couple of days no problem, I then became aware that at very intermitant times shortly after the drum done a reverse there was a fairly loud cracking sound like a capacitor which has been charged say by a megger and then shorted causing a electrical cracking sound ! Tested the 8uf cap and that seemed fine, however I changed it for a fresh one and continued testing.
Still the intermitant crack manifests itself, I have now changed the Timer and the problem is still there. The problem is that now and again when the cracking noise occurrs it blows the green spot stat ?
I have now bypassed the Green Spot under controlled conditions but you can stand there for two and half hours and nothing ! then another time after 30 mins you hear the crack ?
What I have noticed is that the motor casing seems very hot even after say 30 – 40 mins of operation. I have checked the service manual but it does not state the resistance values for the motor and carrying out a megger test reveals nothing either.
Anyone had this on these Condenser dryers or have any ideas ?

Is it possible that the drum has rubbed through the back panel and has shorted out the wires from the heater? I have had this a couple of times.

No I checked for chaffed wires where they pass through the rear of the back panel to the heater.
Problem now solved, machine scrapped and new appliance supplied !
