Called to the above machine due to LED’s 2 + 4 flashing.

The element test OK so replaced the PCB.

Went through the tests again, ran the machine and it heated. Left the customer but got called back as LED’s 2 + 4 have reappeared.

Checked the machine again and unable to find any bad connections. Tighten connectors to PCB and ran the machine. Again it appears to heat OK but still get the errors.

As I couldn’t find any other cause I wondered if the PCB could have been faulty. Replace the board again and tested.

The machine completed the cycle a couple of times without a problem but has now started lashing the same error.

Customer says the machine gets hot and the detergent dispenser doesn’t open.

Any ideas what else I can try?

    Keith.

did you check for earth leakage on the heater?

The first time I called I checked for continuity and earth leakage, everything checked out OK.

hi, make sure they are not using rinse aid with 3 in 1 tablets, this could cause foaming that could be affecting appliance

When I ran the machine through on a test before it was run empty so didn’t have any ‘3 in 1 tabs’ and there was no sign of excess foaming. I will get the customer to run the machine through empty a few times to confirm this though.

    Thanks.

Maybe earth leakage when element expands when hot or resistance change. |I would try another element first.

The machine has been run several times without detergent/tabs, still get the same error.

Returned to do further checks, confirmed there are no earth faults on the machine, the resistance across the element is about 25 Ohms. Supply to the heater is 240 volts.

The machine gets very hot when washing so the element and heating circuit is working correctly.

I am getting really frustrated with this one :taz: any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Keith.

This is still ongoing, apparently the customer is now saying the detergent dispenser opens as normal, the tablet drops to the bottom of the machine but doesn’t dissolve!

From this I wonder if the machine is not taking enough water, this would account for the thermistor not sensing an increase in temperature which in turn would bring up the no heat fault. Strange thing is she says the dishes appear to have washed!

Are these machines known for under-filling? I guess another possibility is the recirc pump could be faulty however when I ran the tests it appeared to fill & wash OK!

    Any ideas on this?

    Interesting!

Is there known problem with other heaters?

If I order a genuine replacement heater will it be a bleckmann?

    Thanks,

    Keith.

    Hi Twoten,

I was wondering how you were getting on with this one? I’ve litterally just walked back in from seeing one with the same symptoms. Customer is happy for a new PCB but after reading this thread it’s put a bit of doubt in my mind. In this case, you start it off, it empties, fills, washes for about 5 seconds then pumps out and error code LED’s 2 + 4 Flashing.

I did a few checks and questioned the customer:

When selecting the programe you used to be able to select programe 1 then it would go to 1 & 2 combined, then 2, then 3 etc etc. However, since it starting going faulty, when selecting the programmes it just goes 1, 2 3 then 4. I tried it on Eco so it still does the same, aborts and shows up the same error??

No obvious prolems, meggers out ok. Any suggestions ??

    Steve

    Re: Hotpoint BFI620 DW LED 2 + 4

I’ve had this on a few other machines where the element checks out and replacing the PCB has solved it.

The fault on this one doesn’t come up until it’s been on for some time, the water still gets very hot and the customer says the tablet doesn’t dissolve.

I will be going back early next week and check the fill level and the element (as suggested by HotDog), I will let you know how I get on.

    Re: Hotpoint BFI620 DW LED 2 + 4

Went back to this nightmare again,

the element fitted is a bleckmann, put a detergent tablet in the machine and put on a wash, machine ran through and the tablet dissolved, in ‘hot’ water. At the end of the cycle the machine now flashes LED 4.

I guess that’s an improvement as it’s only 1 LED instead of 2 so it’s 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} fixed :conf:

I am out of ideas on this, I have now reached the stage where I have to hold my hands up and refund the customer as I can not solve this.

As this machine is under the Hotpoint 5 years warranty I will suggest the customer calls Hotpoint and then let me know what they find.

Oh, I hate being beaten :taz:
