hi guys, got a hotpoint wma62 second hand, the machine turned on and filled, but the drum didnt turn. had a check on the forum history search and replaced the wires from the pcb to the motor as they were chaffed, but the motor still wont turn. is it likely that the board is damaged or the motor. can check readings if anybody knows any!, thanks in advance…

If the motor brushes are OK then it is possible the PCB may be damaged.

thanks iadom, do you know if there any checks regarding readings from the board that i can take, the readings from the motor brushes showed low resistance, about 4 ohms so im assuming this is ok?. not much experience with this type of motor.

No tests you can do on the board, board level tech info is just not available, even to the trade.

The only way to check brushes correctly is to remove them and visually check the ends of the brushes, brush length and the condition of the commutator.

If the wiring was chafed and showed any signs of shorting between wires then the board may already be dead. More often than not the board will show physical signs of damage such a blown tracks or components but not always.

When you say ‘replaced wires’ do you mean you repaired the damaged wiring or replaced the wiring including the motor plug. The wires into the motor plug can break but still appear to be attached, a gentle tug on all of the wires to the motor plug should reveal any such faults.

thanks jim, board looks good i.e. no tracks blown. i cut back and replaced the chaffed section on the connecting wires but carried out a continuity check from plug-plug and was ok. i assume if the board was damaged it would be on the speed controller/soft start part of the board. if voltage was showing at the brush connectors would this mean a motor problem?

Motors on this model are fairly reliable, in fact I have very little trouble with any of the electrics/electronics on the ULTIMA machines but the chafed wiring harness syndrome is a very common fault and often damages the modules across the whole of the WMA range.

thanks for the advice jim. looks like a new board is required then, does any body know of a supplier of used/second hand pcb’s, preferably local to the N.W. as only paid 70 quid for the machine and cant justify the 95 quid plus for the pcb.

hi ,try EMW electronics on the net they do reconditioned pcb on a exchange for your old board.

    Re: hotpoint wma62

I have learned from Dom that this machine has WMA 62,WMA 64 & WMA 66 in various locations, on the console, door and the back of the machine.

As this is obviously a ‘cut & shut’ job and the WMA 66 has a chopper board whilst the other two do not I have advised him that any further ‘guesstimates’ as to the cause of the problem may be futile in the light of this machines very doubtful parentage. :rolls:

m/c now condemned, parts available for spares if required as still have it, thanks jim for all your advice and help even though there was no decent outcome, but he wont get caught out again!
    cheers, dom.

Just in case anyone has a similar fault i went out to a wma60 no spin no rotation at all i had a spare board still no good wasnt until i was just about to give in that i selected a spin cycle and the machine which was a 1400 showed spin speeds of up to 1600
all it needed was reconfiguring to the right setting
dont know how it happened maybe youngs ones playing with the buttons
