ParticipantHi, Does anyone know of a supplier who manufatures decent and usable oven benches at a reasonable cost.
Trying to avoid the B&D workmate type thing and looking for something like I have already.
Years ago I was given a bench. Telescopic and detachable top, wheels on the rear so can set up under anything other than a really low single, slide out and turn and even wheel away and back. Heavy but very worthwhile.
I believe this was originally Bosch or Neff issue, many years ago.Any ideas 💡

I dare say you have and so do many other engineers, but with supplying these to employed engineers, I am looking to source something more suitable.
Yes I have two B&D workbenches which are easier and quicker to cart into the customers home than my oven bench which I descibed earlier, but believe me I wouldnt not use the bench. Its more versatile and made for the job.
So back to my original question: Anyone know where I can get a proper oven bench?
Take that as a NO then :rolls:July 19, 2008 at 12:43 pm #257292wsts

Here you go, this is just about the same as what we used when I was at Stoves, great for 900mm tall double ovens.

These were the ones we had at Stoves though as you can see they are lighter but also alot more expensive.

I had one of the trolleys when I used to store machines, great for moving and stacking washers in the workshop / store, cant imaging taking to a customers thougth. The aluminium one at 25KG is more like it.
What’s it like to get into a customers home, can an engineer carry it on site? steps into the house etc.July 19, 2008 at 5:54 pm #257294kwatt

Graham Dixon made one up that was very good indeed but it was sadly never made due to lack of interest. 😕

I have an excellent one which is ideal for carrying into customers’ houses and which I believe originally came from a manufacturer. I can bring it to the Sept meeting and if there’s sufficient interest we could investigate the feasibility of getting it made up. From memory [I’m away on hol at the moment] it adjusts from about 2ft to 5ft 6in using a threaded shaft and a removable extension piece.

For the past year or two now, I have been using a motor cycle jack, I made up a wooden top to fit on it. I pump up the jack to the correct level, remove the oven, repair, replace, job done. Even when the oven needs to be lowered to enable easier accessibility, brilliant, just lower it, then pump back up to the correct hight. The jack can be carried from fan to house easily, I have put on the feet dense fabric to allow easy maneuvering. Easy, simple, professional, no heavy humping and doing the back in. Customers are well impressed.
Less than £90 the whole thing, it does not take up a whole lot of room in the van either.

This sounds like the ones we’re supplied with . A base unit approx 18inches high that looks like the base of an office chair. Into this you can fit a rotating turntable which can screw ‘upwards’ about 2 feet or for higher ovens , you slip in a 2 foot extension section first.
Has the advantage of being fully adjustable from any height between 2 foot around 5.5 foot – invaluable.P.s also handy for those times you have to slide off a stacked tumble dryer from above a washing machine

That’s the one. Never thought of using it for a tumble dryer though; thanks for that idea Paul.

nomadPaul, what is the stability like on the screw item here. I would have thought a centre screw would wobble like crazy, or have I the wrong end of the idea here. Do you have a photo of a machine (tumble dryer or oven) on the item.

Motorcycle lift £59.99 + VAT in this month’s Makro mailshot. Maximum weight 135kg – should be ample for a double oven. Available from Wednesday 30th July.
It’s a scissor type with a rubber topped platform and four feet.
I’ve long used a workmate and it’s rarely the right height, but that lift looks like an excellent idea!! Thanks Oldtog! 8)Steve.

The stability is fine; it doesn’t wobble about.
