ModeratorAnyone else had problems with todays automatic Windoze security update.
It completely corpsed my network connections this morning. Didn’t have time to sort it earlier but have just spent a frustrating hour or so trying to get things back online.
I found out that if I used System Restore to yesterdays date before the security update I could get online but as soon as I allowed the latest security update to install my connection was goosed. 👿

No, it was a typical MS security update for Win XP.
Turns out it was a conflict with Zone Alarm firewall, MS blame ZA and ZA blame MS.
So if anyone out there has lost connectivity after security update and they use Zone Alarm firewall you can either use System Restore to go back one day then refuse to allow the update to install or set your Zone Alarm firewall setting to medium for the Internet Zone.
Some reports of this latest XP update causing problems with other firewalls and AV software as well. :rolls:

Zone alarm have now released a patch to fix this problem. Anyone using any version of Zone Alarm with Win XP should update Zone Alarm firewall from this link.

May I say thanks for highlighting this.
I tried to log on tonight, no joy, thought was a poor broaband due to the wet weather, and not good enough to support my wireless set up. (Village few miles from the exchange, and not the only Broadband in the Village)
Quite a usual ocurrence, so I usually patch in my old fixed connection, reset in connectivity, and away. No joy there either.
Then I remembered what I’d read in these hallowed pages, done a system restore and rest my Zone Labs firewall, bingo.
Had I not seen it here, I would never have sussed out why.
