We have a ten year old Bosch dishwasher which following a recent house move seems to have a problem.

Basically a few of the strange headed screws that hold the front panel door on have gone missing over the years so the front panel is now coming loose down the left side. I’d like to know if I can just find some similar sized normal screws or if the Bosch ones with their strange screw heads are available? (They’re the screws that are down the inside of the door)

Secondly and probably more fundamentally the removal chaps who installed the machine as a favour made a crap job of wiring the plug on an extension cable that was needed and in fact the extension cable plug melted!! The dishwasher has now stopped working which I presume is due to an internal fuse maybe blowing. We are lucky that there wasn’t A fire but in fairness to them they did it for a back hander reluctantly and told me up front it was against their company rules. Fortunately they did a rather better job on the washing machine and tumble dryer.

So it strikes me that it might be worth me trying to replace the internal machine fuse if I could obtain a replacement and if somebody could tell me where to find it inside the machine. If that doesn’t work I need to decide if it’s worth calling out an engineer to repair it and I’d be curious how much that might cost. I’d also wlecome views on whether I’d be better off buying a new machine rather than repairing an 8 year old one. I suppose if I could get this one fixed for less than £50 it might be worth it but if it’s going to cost £100 I’d be better of buying new.

I’d really welcome any advice and recommendations for engineers near Liphook/Petersfield.

    Many thanks,

    Re: Bosch dishwasher problem

The screws are stainless steel no.8 countersunks, with a T20 Torx head. A smilar spec Philips or Pozi could be used with no detriment.

As for the machine being dead, there are no internal fuses (model number would be useful…..) on any Bosch d/w. Fault may be the mains suppressor where the power comes in, power switch or pcb/timer, depending on type.

You can use the repairs@ link in the task bar on the left to find a local UKW engineer – just pop in your postcode.
