ParticipantI have a Samsug american style side by side fridge freezer, not sure of the model number but the manual states for models SR-S20 and SR-S22.
was bought new about 5 years ago it has and ice dispenser and chilled water dispenser in the left hand door of the freezer.Problem:- The freezer display LCD is continuosly flashing and the freezer is not freezing properley. The fridge on the other hand is working fine and chills perfectly.
all the ice contained in the ice dispenser has melted and the food also has deforosted, but curiosly the food lower down seems to ok and quite hard.
I filled ice cube trays and put one on each shelf, the lower two froze ok in about 3 hours but the top two remained water and have done for about 5 days now. sometimes the freezer display stop flashing for a while but always returns flashing again.
Apart from defrosting the unit last week i have not attemped to do anything. can anyone help please
many thanksJuly 12, 2008 at 8:17 am #257514admin

Hi
The problem will be within the defrost system, either the thermal fuse, defrost sensor or defrost heater.
Unless you are electricalty compedent then get an engineer who is experienced on Samsung refrigeration and it should be fixed on the first visit.

Hi Bryan
Thanks for the info on that, i am fine with electrical stuff but i have no wiring diagram or exploded parts manual so would not have a clue where to look for the items… iam also not sure if the fan inside the “twin cooling” plastic is working.
I switched of the unit and removed all thefreezer section internal plastic rear panels, the pipework was caked with ice and frost, i let is all melt and made sure the drain was clear which it is, then put it all back together and switched it on.
It is a whole lot better but struggles to get to -20 ( was set to -23 before), and goes from -9 to -20 over a 24 hour period. but the ice cube maker is now full of ice and the flashing led has stopped., I have not yet put any food in it yet…. just incase.
any idea where i could lay my hands on a manual to show me where these parts are located and codes, numbers, etc please.
Many thanks

may I suggest you apply a bit of logic here?
When the compressor is running(humming noise) the evaporator (radiator-type thing in back) will get very cold (that is the iced-up stuff)
the fan circulates air inside the cabinet, over the evaporator, thus chilling it and depositing ice on the evap.
When the comressor stops, so will the fan, ‘cos the freezer is cold -enough…….now, sometime, the heater(usually a thin metal “tube”/loop under the evaporator, will energise ,to melt the ice
SO, after the thing goes quiet, access the evaporator and see if the ice is actually melting! If it’s NOT, and If you are unable to test the parts (power off!) you may find it cheaper to follow r600a’s advice, rather than replace stuff willy-nilly.
