My mother in laws 10 year old Lavamat makes a horrendous banging/hammering noise at top end of fast spin. After a battle to extricate the brute I have had little opportunity to examine it fully. However the bearing seems Ok as does the spider and pulley. A faint acrid smell was also noticed. On the one test run I carried out I noticed that the continuous hammering was reduced if I moved the left suspension leg forward. Any body any suggestions please or is it fit only for the great srapyard in the sky?

Phidom. Thanks for suggestion. I visited the mother in law only to find that she had taken herself off and ordered a new machine. I didn’t get the opportunity to see if the weights were a problem or not. I just called in to her house and examined the Lavamat that was sitting in the driveway. It has a sealed bottom and I didnt have time or inclination to remove the back again. So I will never know what the fault was.
Yes another machine goes to the great scrapyard inthe sky.
