ModeratorTo think we used to call these old machines.
Went to two Hotpoint tumble dryers this morning, one a VTD20 needed a new belt.
Machine just under 3 years old, this is the 4th belt fitted in last 12 months. 😥Second machine was a Hotpoint 1701 that also needed a main belt.
This is the first time the belt has been changed and the machine is a date code 15, which means it was made in March 1979. 😯
In perfect condition all round as you can see.Jim.

Ah but, the silver disc was not fitted to all machines, particularly dryers as the knob does not have a ‘timer knob screw’, its a pull off job. 😉
The silver disc was introduced later on for the 1848 washing machines etc.

I was always amused when a customer had tried to undo the ‘screw’ on a dryer timer knob and given up in frustration. 😆

I recall in the early 90’s working at Hotpoint whem I called to a REALLY old
frontloader (possibly 1800 series maybe pre that) that must have been nearly 20 years old then. The customer, an old Italian guy, was livid. ‘I thought Hotpoint were a good make….how long are these things meant to last’. I was puzzled to say the least as to why he still had it if it gave him so much trouble to which he replied.’I didn’t expect it to go wrong already’. This was its first ever call :rotfl: . That scenario wil neverhappen again .

Nice, but that one would not have had the silver disc, didn’t come in until much later.

I used one of those machines for a while 3 or 4 years ago but ended up scrapping it when short of space, although it still worked OK. I used to do some repairs for a shop in Elgin where Dented Porsche has also traded. For a while they had a marble effect machine of this range stood outside the shop (perhaps they hoped someone would nick it 😆 ) At the time I assumed it’s owner had covered it in fablon but I’ve since heard that they sold them in a marble effect finish 😯

You just brought back a dusty memory. I remember working on one of these many (many) moons ago. I seem to remember a wood grain fronted fridge as well…..hopefully that was fablon…or even sticky back plastic for the Valerie Singleton fan club 😀TC

Hotpoint’s horrid ‘teak’ woodgrain finish……yuk!! Those appliances seemed to always be synonymous with the filthy, untidy, mouldy kitchen and they were never matched to anything else. :rolls: But I’ve not seen a marbled finish machine. Must have been fairly rare. Zanussi did a ‘terre de france’ range with yellow, red, blue and brown in the early eighties. The colours all faded from a dark hue at the edge of the appliance into the bright colour in the middle. Looks very dated now.
Mind you, the most ridiculous looking machines were the ones that customers had covered in Fablon. With a badly cut circle for the door……….. :nono:
Steve.
