ParticipantHi today i stripped down this wf240 to replace the rear tub only to find that the old drum does not fit. have spoken to hotpoint who ensureme the tub i have is the right on. On the old tub the bearing seal is flat, but on the new one the seal look more complex and is risen. I expect there to be a modified drum cross piece can you confirm anyone. please reponse asap. thank you.

no, there is no modified support, just 2 different sizes of shaft/bearing, 30mm or 35mm

Thanks for your response it seems as if the drum shaft isn’t long enough to fit through the rear bearing

hi, not possible, only 2 types of shaft & 2 rear drums, 30mm & 35mm, nothing else

As you pull the drum through the bearing, the metal ‘sleeve’ at the front of the seal pushes back inside the rubber part and grips the shaft. The seal new and the old one compressed look different, but hotpnt is absolutely correct, there are only 2 types. The one you have is the 30mm.
Hope that helps,
Steve.

Not if you can clean and polish it up…… 😉 The 30mm shaft is available to order only and is costly; so if you can save the old one try and do so. The 35mm shaft is the one with the Rubena seal that replaced the sprung – loaded original that put Hotpoint on Watchdog a few years back.
So far, all the 30mm types I have done have not needed a shaft. If the shaft is badly damaged after clean up, then you can either fit a new 30mm shaft or obtain a complete drum rear half with 35mm bearings and replace the 30mm shaft with a new 35mm one. Discard the 30mm drum rear half and spider. The rest of the drum parts will interchange.
See how it goes with the 30mm one first………:wink:Steve.

Drum shaft 35mm – Connect part no:- 5031688311664 (gen) or BRG3605 (pattern). The 30mm drum half doesn’t seem to be available separately. No bad thing though: the premier bearing kit and Rubena seal make a good upgrade from the 30mm ones. Much better kit. 😉
