ParticipantCan anyone answer me this question?
Why do we stand for the “rip off” prices that the British public and we are being charged for every thing that is being made in Europe?I have just been informed that Bosch are to increase spare part prices by 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} due to the value of the Euro/exchange rate 😕
We are constantly been hammered due to “oil prices” but in my opinion there seem to be companies (mainly foreign) taking advantage to “pop” a little extra on for themselves, Merloni being a prime candidate among the many.
Unfortunately we have no option but to buy parts of these companies unless we can source a so called copy, which I in my business seem to be doing more of. We all buy spare parts from various wholesales, it is becoming a bit of a pain in the a*** to have to check prices night after night after a days work.
Certain wholesalers don’t seem to be going out of their way to keep prices down. IMO if you use a wholesales web site, then they should be showing every equivalent that is available when you do a part search, not the odd one.
Example, drain pump for a dishwasher, £65 cost. This pump after extensive searching I managed to find for £15, same Copreci pump! The wholesales who supplied the part made a profit I made a profit and the customer was ecstatic that I managed to complete the repair at a reasonable cost.
Example 2
Bosch D/W lower door seal SRP20.96. Same seal From Merloni/Hotpoint costs more to purchase than this, £24.46 + their SRP £42.31 😕
I constantly give my wholesalers earache with a result of a possibly a better price on an item, but next week it’s back to normal.
Without us repair people they would be out of business a fact they seem to ignore. It’s hard enough with the likes of the Merloni Co. trying to monopolise the industry.
Maybe I am over the top with this suggestion but this industry seems to be heading down the pan. Every week we all attend more and more BER’s. mainly due to the reasons above.
For the life of me I cannot understand why we are letting this a happen (British public)Rant over; hope I have stirred a few emotions

Not a chance Mal…But I’m sure it was good to get it off your chest anyways? 😀
We’ve ranted and raved for donkeys over this very subject and there’s reams of similar threads throughout UKW all making the self same observations as your goodself. And, like you, we all surf around the various wholesalers getting the best spares price for ourselves and ultimately our customers.
You have found that by doing that you can shave off a load of the cost on many and varied parts anyway. Those bits you need (e.g. Whirlpool funny money stuff) but know that you’re in for a hiding on price is best to steer clear of anyway!
BER’s are indeed on the increase but to avoid that repetitive market it’s best to go more ‘up-market’ ‘top-end’ stuff and those lovely ‘built-in’ products folks aren’t so reluctant to scrap for the price of a pump motor!
You mentioned Indesit and therefore you must realise that they only sell cheap junk anyway. And by their very nature as a product are likely contenders for the ‘BER syndrome’ across their entire range soon as look at them. So taking on such a brand is asking for a load of hastle anyway I reckon.
Raise the bar mate and reap the reward, leave the Indesit to the ‘No Call Out ‘ bods……………….:rolls:

Hi Martin
I agree entirely with your coments, sadly l and most others have got to go down the crap Hotpoint/Indesit road. In a way I blame myself for this as I am ex-Hotpoint and have had the tendency to promote such products for the last 20 years so the majority of appliances in this area are of this nature.( I should have had the full frontal lab. )
😆 As to leaving these brands to the “no call out brigade” is not an option, one, cos we don’t have any in this area the ones that we have had have gone by the wayside, secondly customers prefering to come to me for some unknown reason 😉 They probably have bought decent Bosch built ins but also have the crap Hot/Inds washers 😥 I am realy looking forward to the new “swipe card” machines 🙁August 4, 2008 at 2:41 pm #259158Martin

Yeah, had one today Bosch D/W that only needed a new capacitor on the motor to bring it back to life but the friggin’ Creda dryer (stacked on a WMA) was the proverbial PITA…:(
Hey! Ho! such is our lot…!!
