My Stepson’s oven is a double cavity one, but if the main (lower) oven is on, and the top oven is used, then both ovens cut out…..any ideas please?

Element in lower oven is fine, is the a regulator or thermal cut out mis-behaving?

    All suggestions gratefully received!!

What happens if only the top oven is used? A model number would be useful to see if there are any thermal overload cutouts for you to check.

My apologies for the delay in replying! The model number is 48181.
As far as I am aware, if either oven is used in isolation, then all is well, but if both ovens are run together, then when they reach temperature, both cut out, and will not work again until the whole unit has cooled totally….sounds very much as though there is a thermal cut out mis-behaving, but could see no sign of one when replacing lower oven element (which I incorrectly diagnosed as being faulty….)

Parts listing shows a cut-in thermostat, presumably for the cooling fan, also a thermal cut-out which will shut off the oven if there is an overheat. Does the cooling fan come on? Usually about 5 minutes cooking is enough.

Ok then, upon turning on either oven, or the grill, the cooling fan immediatley starts up. Does this help?!!

    Grr – not really 😆 .

Next step – check that the oven thermostats are actually cycling and controlling the heat. Are you getting a good draught from the cooling fan? They get clogged up over the years and don’t move enough air – especially if there is no ventilation around the oven. The cut-out may have begun to trip on a nuisance basis due to age/vibration/continuous excess heat.

Ok, fortunately I had the presence of mind to anticipate the next question!!
Both thermostats are working as they ought, a good draught is coming from the fan (Although…excuse possible extreme stupidity here, but in which direction should the cooling fan blow? at present, it blows from its location top back out towards the front, and not much actually passes then down the door fronts; surely it would be better if it drew air in and therefore upwards through the doors?…prepares for incoming 😳 ).
The oven is about 14 months old, and has adequate ventilation from below through plinth vent & is clear at the rear…
Would it be worth just changing the thermal cut out anyway? Any idea of part cost?

    Cheers

Cut-out is p/no C00224176 – it’s only a couple of quid, so try it. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly.
