    Hi guys.
Recently visited elderly Mum who lives some distance away and I feel the fridge/freezer is not right. Compressor seems to always be on and it seems to struggle to maintain temperature (both fridge and freezer although I think the fridge struggles most.
It is Zanuzzi ZFK 47/52RF There are two pictures of it on my PC here:
    http://maxtec.serveftp.net/fridge/
I called out loal repair guy, who alarmingly quickly and without removing any panels said it was probably low on gas, not knowing any better, I agreed he should re-gas it, which he did…now returning a couple of weeks later to me it still seems to be struggling, even on cooler days. Compressor always seems to be running. The plastic at the front of section dividing the fridge and freezer seems warm to the touch (see pic) strange place to put warm components, I would have thought. machine was bought in 1999.
Difficult to have off for any length of time, as she is infirm and needs for pre prepaired meals.
Any thoughts? I have reasonable engineering skills, but limited refrigeration knowledge
    thanks

    Hi Pete

I am a bit surprised as you were, that it need re-gassing. Generally they only need a re-gas if it has leaked and they only leak from a hole in the system pipe work. Did your guy say that he had found the leak? cos if he re-gassed and the hole is still there then the problem will still be there 😥 .
The other reason that compressors runs continuously is that the compressor may be faulty internally which may render the unit not economical to repair. Might be an idea to have a word with your repair guy as he should have guarenteed the repair. :rolls:
Quite a lot of fridge freezers have a anti- condensation heater in the area that you mention is warm, probably ok

    Hi

Remove the rear panel in the freezer section and you will see the freezer evaperator is it covered in ice / snow ? .The fridge is cooled by forced air from the freezer into the fridge.

At the rear of the fridge top left you will find a box with a round plug, remove the plug and you will see the defrost timer cam.turn this with a large screwdriver slowly until it has a lound click and the appliance then stops,Then have a look in the freezer again to see if the defrost heater is working.(metal heater goes along bottom of evaperator)(yes it does get hot or should do). After approx 30 mins it should restart on its own.

    possible defrost timer/defrost heater/thermal fuse,defrost terminatin sensor.

Thanks guys, will check out on my next visit over.
If the area shown on pic is permanently warm, is it possible the defrost heater is stuck on?

    Peter.

Oh, and the guy made clear that he did NOT guarantee a re-gassing

    Hi

The centre of the fridge has a transum heater which stops condensation and this is normal and nothing to do with defrost or running.
