Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me. My Whirlpool American side by side Fridge Freezer which has a water/ice dispenser in the door has developed yet another fault!! The freezer is making ice OK but has stopped dispensing the ice down the chute and into the glass! I’ve checked it out and the mechanism isn’t frosted up, the small metal gadget attached to the inside of the door that you can see when you remove the ice container, is going round and round and the mechanism in the bottom of the ice container that chops the ice will also go round. Is it possible that the two bits that fit together are worn in someway – although they look perfectly ok or is it possibly the motor that powers the dispenser that is faulty.

I hope someone can help – not that this British summer is warm emough to need lots of ice!!!

    Thanks

I’m no expert on these Whirlpool machines but it is not unknown for auger motors to fail, so it is a possibility.

Other than that the PCB’s seem to be more than a little popular.

My old Maytag’s icemaker has chucked it, I feel your pain. 😉

    Re: Whirlpool F/Freezer Ice Dispenser

Thanks for that – the machine has only recently had a new control box fitted by Whirlpool after the freezer broke down – do you think this could be another problem with the board? Another thing I’ve noticed is that whilst the door display shows the freezer temperature as -18 and the food in the freezer does seem to be properly frozen, the ice cubes that are being produced are sticking together in a fairly solid mass, (although they will separate with a bit of bashing) – just as though they’ve melted a bit!!
I took out one of Whirlpools warranties after the earlier breakdown which entitles me to 2 repairs within a 12 month period – if it is the control box again do you think they should replace this without it counting as my second claim on the warranty?

Thanks for any replies – it’s much appreciated.
