Hi All, I have a Smeg DWF 1.1, Type 10045, and from the information on the label I think the serial number is 00650 1101 (it has the letters NR in front of this number). I purchased the Dishwasher in January 2002 so that makes it 6.5 years old.

My wife put it on as normal today, however she didn’t notice that the eco drying system option was activated, which greatly extends the program time. She tried to cancel it as normal via the front panel button but it refused to cancel so she just left it switched off. Later on she was able to start the program from the beginning again with the eco drying option off.

She went to empty it later on and discovered that although all the plates and glasses were clean and dry (or appeared to be) bottom of the dishwasher was full of dirty water.

When you try and start any of the programs now, the dishwasher pump/motor whirs into life for about 1 second then stops again with a double beep.

The display shows the — when turned on for a couple of seconds when you first turn it on, then changes to the selected program.

I was able to drain most of the water from the dishwasher by lowering the pipe to ground level then trying to start the dishwasher. The pump managed to push a spurt of water which then started the flow of the rest of the water via gravity so I know that the pipe is not blocked.

There did appear to be some gunk behind the little black flap in the sump of the dishwasher but I’ve managed to clear this out.

I’ve left it turned off unplugged for a few hours but its not made any difference.

Reading some other posts it would appear that repairs may be quite expensive and therefore uneconomical but I would appreciate any advice that you can give.

    Cheers

As you appear to have realised, this is a hard one to call. Despite its rustic appearance with the levered mock stainless knobs, this is still a “5 LED” SMEG machine, and particularly prone to corruption issues. There is an article HERE outlining the basic problems. You have the added handicap that the LEDs are not on display to give you some idea of what is going on.

Sorry to be a bit vague – you’ll have to get in there and work it out.

Stay safe – power off for anything other than observation.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the prompt response and link to the article. I’ll have a look when I get home tonight. If any parts are required are they available to buy to be fitted myself or would you reccomend getting an engineer to undertake this work?

    Cheers

Re: Smeg DWF 1.1 – Unable to start any program

    Hi Again everyone,

right, we’re 8 weeks down the road since the Smeg broke and its still not fixed. I contacted my local authorised smeg engineer the same week I posted my original message to ask him to come and have a look at the dishwasher.

Anyway, he did some over the phone diagnostics and said it was the circuit board thats located in the door thats causing the problem and that it needs replaced. Cost = £140 quid plus callout of £40 quid so I thought that seemed worth a shot and told him to go order it. He said he would have it within a week.

The week came and went and he called to say it hadn’t arrived but he expected it to be the following week.

Anyway after much chasing they keep just telling me the same thing (its not in but it should be a week or so) so i called Smeg today to see if there are any problems getting parts for dishwashers of my age. Turns out that even if the item is out of stock in the UK it normally arrives from Italy within 7-10 working days.

So my latest questions are, do I just forget about the engineer and try and source and fit this part myself

    and

If so, do any of you know the exact part name? Smeg parts told me that they I can buy the part direct from them – but obviously I would like to ask for the correct part int he first place.

Or is it better to try and get to the the faulty part and find an exact part number?

    Thanks for any info.

    cheers

PCB is p/no 696290694, showing as in stock in the wholesaler which I use. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk quoting that part number will get things moving for you. Be very sure that this is what you want – this is not a cheap component.

    Hello Penguin45,

Thanks for the info and quick response. I am going to take a look at the board in my machine as soon as I can – I dont expect to see anything obvious but this is the part that the smeg engineer said needed replaced.

    cheers for all your help!

I’m most certainly NOT an expert, but this sounds exactly like the problem I had with my smeg (search DWF66 diagnostics).

I know nothing about the machine in question, but at that price, I’d be VERY carefully checking the wiring-harness etc.BEFORE ordering a board.

It COULD be a simple fault IE broken/intermittent wire (where a door continually flexes cables, the copper core can break but the plastic insulation is intact, hiding the problem! ) you’ll need a lot of patience to go through it, cleaning accumulated residues as you go…..at least, if it really DOES need a board,it will go into a nice clean machine 😆

Make SURE you CANCEL the order from the (non) supplier – the last thing you want is to be forced to pay for two 😯

CS is right and wrong here (Sorry Steve 😀 ). Loom breakage hasn’t been an issue on modern SMEG stuff. Random faulting issues are almost always a cause and effect problem, documented in the article listed above. The problem, as always, is what is causing it……..

    Sorry, no definitive answer.

Re: Smeg DWF 1.1 – Unable to start any program

Thanks everyone for your advice so far. Due to the joys of painting and decorating my house this week, the smeg has been left untouched and I didn’t order the part.

I’m going to pay close attention to all the suggestions that have been posted here before I order.

I know that this part costs a lot of money but I am loath to throw this machine out if this is all thats wrong with it. The replacements that I’ve been looking at are all in the same price bracket as the smeg was when I bought it (circa 450) probably most likely because I’m looking for that proper stainless steel finish rather that painted silver…

Anyway will post details here of what I find (if anything) or what fixed it (if it ever gets fixed) in due course!

Re: Smeg DWF 1.1 – Unable to start any program

    Hi All,

Better late than never but the Smeg was finally fixed the Friday before Christmas, almost 4 months to the day since it broke just in time for Christmas day lunch at our house!

It was a saga from start to finish, but in the end it didn’t need a new PCB as I eventually discovered that it was the soap dispenser solenoid that that had packed up and that replacing the entire soap dispenser drawer resolved the problem.

This is apparently because Smegs are the only machine that sense that this problem has occured and refuse the start the cycle, other makes carry on as normal and you only become aware that this is an issue when you discover your soap tablet/powder is still in the drawer.

I’m still waiting for the invoice, but I was advised that the dispenser drawer is around 45 quid.

Hope this info is useful to someone else!

    Cheers

The good news is , you saved the labour -charge, so the part was “free”

    you DIDN’T waste £150 on a PCB !

What a good do! I hope wifey showed her appreciation 😛

Thanks for letting us know, it helps others.
