I have a Bosch upright freezer model GSU3102GB FD7505. It appears to be working fine, i.e. it holds temperature at -18 to -20 all the time. The problem is ice is forming inside the freezer, it is as though water has been spilt inside and lumps of ice form on articles in the freezer and lumps of ice form at the bottom along with some icicles on the back of baskets.
When I first saw it I thought I must have spilt water from the ice tray put on the freezing tray but I’ve been careful since and ice still forms. It is hard almost clear ice, not a frost buildup. I’ve not taken the panel off the nofrost system compartment at the top yet (it’s not immediately obvious how this comes off).

Apart from this problem the freezer seems fine, with the compressor kicking in normally.

    Any clues?

    Thanks in anticipation.

The most common cause of this , if i read the description right , would probably be a blockage of the drain hole by some ice at the rear of the evaporator. As the appliance goes into a defrost stage , the defrosted ice has nowhere to drain , if the hole’s blocked , and so the only place for it to go would be back in to the freezer compartment. Hence the icicles forming and , normally , a solid block of ice under the bottom tray.

As its a GSU model , i would reccomend a full 48hr defrost, appliance switched off and door left open , with a few towels around the base. This should clear the blocked drain hole of ice and get your freezer back to basics.
