    I assume there is a partial blockage.Can someone tell me where the filter is please and how to get at it? On spin water is coming out through the door seal and through the tray where the powder goes in.

    Take off the lower rear panel and you will see the large rubber or white plastic cone fixed to the base of the tub with a Jubilee clip. If you remove that you will find a cage containing a plastic ball. Hopefully you will also find the cause of the blockage.

    Thank you for your advice,I have not had a look yet but hope I can sort it.

    Previous washing machines I have had there has always been access to this from the front or behind the kick panel. Do hotpoint always put the filter in the position you have told me? Seems more logical from a consumers point of view for it to be accessible from the front.

    Yes, it is not ideal but Hotpoint have used variations on this arrangement for many years.

    Well had a go at what you suggested phidom. The filter was minging and all is ok now. Thanks very much for your advice,saved a good few quid.
