    Hi,

I have a Diplomat ADP 8242 dishwasher which has just started playing up. I’ve had a look at other posts on this forum and others are having similar problems, but the symptoms don’t match exactly.

    Briefly:

    – Program 1 (Rinse) – works as normal
    – Program 2 (Delicate) – does finish but the cycle now takes around 3 hours (way more than before)! During the majority of this program however (every couple of minutes) the machine pauses (as normally happens prior to it progressing through the cycle), beeps twice, then starts washing again. There is also a very quiet noise (sounds like it is from the location of the dispenser) just prior to the machine pausing – it’s almost like a small dull sounding spring / pressure release noise.
    – Program 2 (Eco) – never finishes. We used to wash on this program all the time and this is how we first noticed the fault (after about 6 hours) 😉
    – Program 3 (Strong) – never finishes, or at least not after 4 hours anyway.
    – Program 4 (Super) – to be honest, we’ve only ever used this occasionally and haven’t tried again since the machine started playing up.

All wash programs have hot water as expected.

There are no error codes displayed.

My uneducated diagnosis (i.e. guess) is that since the rinse program is the only program that still works as normal and is also the only program that doesn’t use the dispenser then the fault lies with the dispenser? Although I guess the control unit itself could be faulty?

Anyway, I hope I’ve provided enough information. Any help would be much appreciated.

You are almost certainly correct. Have a read of THIS.

    Wow, amazingly fast feedback!

I’m assuming that you mean that if I replace the dispenser only then this is likely to fix this problem?

Is this something that a keen DIYer can do themselves? If so, any instructions would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks.

*Probably*……… Fickle sort of beast, your Johnny SMEG. We won’t tell you how to fit it – Forum Rules – but if you take the outer door panel off, it should be pretty obvious what you’re screwdrivering.

    The dispenser is HERE.

    Stay safe, power off.

    Didn’t work 🙁

Think it might be time to call out a professional.

The problem also appears to have evolved in that:

    – Only Program 1 (Rinse) now seems to end. All other programs now never end. Interestingly Program 2 (Delicates), before reaching the never ending stage was lasting around 4 hours (up 1 hour).
    – The repeating part (with the 2 beeps at the end of each repeat) seems to have cold / cool water.

I have also now noticed that when reaching the end of the repeating part and the dishwasher pausing that the program light fades out for a moment (as if it has lost power for a moment). Then the two beeps happen and the light comes back on again.

    Worth repairing?

Re: Diplomat ADP 8242 – some programs never end.

Rinse may complete due to there being no heat requirement. All the others require heat. A slight warming after extended washing is (surprisingly enough) caused by friction; not enough to actually match the wash requirement. You should get the E3 error – LEDs 1+2 flashing – if this were the case. I suspect that this is heading towards a PCB problem.

    Sorry,

Correction, after about two hours the water is luke warm. According to the instructions the temperature of the wash cycle is 45 degrees. After two hours though the heating may well be due to friction.

    No error LEDs though.

I suspect you are probably correct with the diagnosis of a PCB problem, however it’s an expensive part so I’m thinking that it may be best to call in a professional to deal with it.

    Was worth a try.

BTW – There are two sets of power connection terminals on the replacement dispenser (one set on the side and one set on the bottom), but only one set on the original dispenser. I’m using the set on the side that are in the same location as the terminals in the original dispenser which seems to work (the dispenser door opens successfully). What are the terminals on the bottom for?

    Hi RayU

Did you ever get a diagnosis of the problem?

I’m getting exactly the same problem with our ADP 8242 – no error codes either.

I was about to splash out on the PCB, but wondered if you had any updated knowledge to impart.

    Thanks in advance….

    Hi Iorek,

Decided to cut my losses and call in a professional (especially with the PCB being very expensive), although haven’t managed to get around to that yet due to an urgent roof repair 🙁 . Maybe next month.

Please keep me posted with how you get on.

Re: Diplomat ADP 8242 – some programs never end.

i,ve had that few times where it takes forever to heat up.
unsure why tho . first time was the thermost replaced the black one with the new white one cured it
second time did same thing did,t cure module/pcb was faulty replaced and it cured it.
think i replaced the element on one of them as well for some reason , maybe was just in bad way or lime scaled up can,t remember now tho .
ps also if your new dispenser got 4 slots and old 1 has 2 u got wrong dispenser, far as i kow there no modifcations to the dispencer wire wise , maybe diffrent conections aka spades to block holes but number of wires should be the same

    Hi karv,

With regards to the dispenser being the wrong one, it was the one pointed out by Penguin45 (UKW Moderator).

    http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/advanced … 54&x=5&y=6

Which according to the description is the correct dispenser. I guess the best person to respond to this would be Penguin45.

In any case, the dispenser still appears to operate in the same way.

Re: Diplomat ADP 8242 – some programs never end.

The additional connections on the bottom of the dispenser are for a rinse aid sensor light. It is not used on the Diplomat and is there due to the rationalisation of spares supply – only one dispenser required to be stocked, rather than two.

Thanks Penguin45 for clearing that up. 🙂
