    Hi,

I have a Whirlpool AWZ541 tumble dryer which is now refusing to start. The orange power light on the front lights up but the dryer won’t start at all.

This particular drier stopped heating up a year back and I replaced the two stats which fixed the issue. The faulty stats didn’t stop the drum from starting / spinning though.

I’ve tried hand rotating the drum with the door catch activated to rule out a faulty capacitor and get it started to no avail.

I presume the only other part left to go wrong is the heater element. Would a faulty one of these stop the drum from starting up?

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Andy

Failure of front thermostat will shut the machine down. Drum out to check. This is always a ventilation problem………

    Power off, first, please.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Apart from any visible signs of deterioration, can I check whether it’s faulty with a multi meter? If so, what would I expect to see when connecting the two terminals?

Also, could I apply this method to the heating element?

    Thanks again,
    Andy

Thermostat should be normally closed – reading near as spit 0 ohms.

Heater failure will not stop the machine starting – it would simply blow cold.
