    Hiya,
    Our 6 year old washing machine started making an awful grinding noise during its final spin this morning. It sounded like the noise was coming from the filter area, so we stopped the machine and took the filter out. Loads of water came out, much more than usual. There wasn’t anything stuck in there and we clean the filter regularly, honest! There’s never been any lost bra wires in it either.
    We tried to spin again but it started as if was going to spin, then stopped.
    Anyway the washing is still soaking and seems a bit soapy.

    Is it worth calling an engineer or buying a new one? Nothing has ever gone wrong with it before.

    You probably need a new pump. These are not expensive so it is well worth getting it fixed. Your present machine is probably better than most of the equivalent models currently available so you should try to keep it going as long as possible.
