Not been out to this machine. 18 year old D/W

Apparently leaking, customer has had someone out who first fitted a lower door seal then the main door seal but it is still leaking.

TBH I don’t really want to waste my time going to have a look ( I know the bloke who has been to it :rolls: )

I would probably have advised them to replace it had they rung me first.

Not actually seen one of these, has anyone come across one with leak problems?

Got a customer with one of these. Dead reliable. Don’t recall having any leaks but has earned me a few bob over the years with element (twice) and door wiring. Alright maybe not that reliable then.
Nice and easy to work on. No fancy electronics. Parts cheap.
    Maybe just overfilling a bit?

Most that I’ve seen had main wash pump seal failures – tip the machine back and the motor is caked in corrosion. The pump will leak badly when washing. It’s probably not a door leak; could be overfilling. Bet on the wash pump……… 😉

A pump seal is about a fiver retail so you’ll have to earn on the labour.

Every one I’ve seen with seal failure has been noisy or seized TBH. 😉

May go and take a look, this guy has had £80 in labour charges, they sourced the parts themselves. :rolls:

He is now stonewalling, basically doesn’t have a clue. Apparently he used to sell hospital equipment. Decided he was a domestic appliance engineer 6 or 7 years ago, will tackle anything without a real idea as to what he is doing. 😥

Fitted an analogue motor to a digitally controlled Hotpoint once, only two weeks ago diagnosed a main PCB failure on a washing machine, had the parts posted to the customer, fortunately she rang me before he went back, it only needed new brushes.

I think those problems are more common in hard water areas.

Went out this old tub this morning, looks very clean underneath, no signs of leaks. It would appear to be coming from the left hand corner but the floor is a little unlevel and the machine does lean to the left a fraction.

As I mentioned I have not encountered one of these before so am not sure of the fill levels.

Set it to wash and it filled enough to actually cover the heating element and did appear to be very close to the top of the lower seal.

Removed filter and took off what looks like a pressure chamber, a squarish, open ended box the plugs into the hose going to the pressure switch. Whilst it was not completely clogged there was some gunge all around the sides and also the small vent on top with the tiny slits in were partially blocked.

Cleaned and refitted, water level now comes up to just touching the underside of the heating element.

Just how much water goes into these machines and can anything else cause overfilling?

Just under the element is about right – gunge inside that ‘box’ was a common fault. Looks like you’ve cracked it!!!

Sadly it appears it was a false dawn, I didn’t make a carge yesterday, I asked her to try it out first.

Apparently it does the first part of the cycle without leaking, it only starts to leak from the door when it gets to the ‘R’ on the dial. I assume this is the rinse cycle. ❓ 😕

I have no tech info whatsoever on this machine so am unable to find out what the fiull levels are on various programmes, no idea as to wether or not it has timed fills, I did notice that it appears to be a H+C fill.

    Jim.
