Supposed to be an NTC ( temp sensor ) fault. Can be loose or broken connections, sadly more likely to be a faulty main PCB. 😥

Jim,
Fantastic advice. One of the wires had broken off the temperature sensor by the heating element.
Wouldn’t have had a clue to even check it if you hadn’t interpreted the flashing lights.
Top man, the beer is in the post
Thanks

Can I join this thread? I too have a Hotpoint WF240 Aquarius with flashing lights . . . but not the same ones.
Our machine gets to final spin and then stops, and the on/off light flashes rapidly, while the Energy Save light (top one of five) flashes more slowly, probably at just under one flash per second. (The on/off light flashes on and off continuously).
I’ve tried switching the machine on and off at the wall, and that re-sets it briefly, but as soon as the drum starts thinking about picking up speed, it stops and the lights begin their routine again.
Anyone any ideas what this means?

Light 1 indicates a motor triac problem, it could be a loose or broken motor connection but is more likely to be a faulty main PCB I’m afraid.

Thanks for the prompt reply Jim.
Excuse my ignorance, but what does “motor triac” mean?
I’ll try and check for loose connections, but if it’s not that, then I’m guessing it’s either call out an engineer, or throw it away and start again.

The motor traic is a component on the PCB.
If it is under five years old then your parts are covered. you will have to pay the extortionate labour charge though. 😥 Still cheaper than buying a new machine though.
