Its a long term problem that has built up and the cure will take some time.
Use a good quality powder, not liquid, do a weekly 60ยฐ wash or a maintenance wash at regular intervals.
The drum cleaning products mentioned in that article will do the job over time, there is no instant miracle cure.

Generally changing to the opposite of what you have been using eg powder to liquid, liquid to powder.
My machine started to smell after using liquid for years changed to good quality powder as mentioned and within 6 washes smell disappeared never to return.
Wife happy which in turns made me happy less ear battering. ๐

Nope. ๐
Using the products correctly and having a maintenance routine WILL stop the problem from happening in the first place. Simply switching from one to the other isn’t the cure.

also on the wf range check the door seal as once they start to go black under the lip bit all the maintenance washes in the world will not get rid of the smell. So new door seal is a good start THEN carry out regular maintenance washes. I also sell them the limescale/detergant remover that Hotpoint engineers themselves sell to customers, cos it really is good stuff and really works.

Have had 3 of these in past month and no recalls

Hiya,
The “black” is bacteria basically. Once it starts then most cleaners, such as bleach and whatnot will remove a load of it and/or mask the smell but it will not destroy the colony completely, some always survive. Trouble is that the little blighters get tougher as well and so tend to come back more quickly than the problem first appeared as they already have a toe hold.
Same goes for the gunk that generally causes a smell. It’s bacteria that has built up.
There are many reasons for it, some proven, some anecdotal and some just plain guesswork based on logic and deduction.
However if you do replace the seal for this mould appearing that I’d advise the customer to leave the door ajar so that it can dry out after use, this will also help to cut down build ups in the tub as well. Bacteria love nothing more than somewhere nice and warm, like modern heated homes and, damp, like the inside of a washer. So a 20รลกC ambient and nice damp conditions are the perfect breeding ground for them.
Most people are a bit surprised when you tell them what it is as, as usual, it’s the washer that gets the blame as if it somehow magically creates these, what looks like to most people, residues.

thanks guys for the reply might be some thing stuck in the sump hose. i read that a engineer advised changing the belt. as the belt streached causing the machine not to spin properly. and water to lye in the bottom of the machine. and cause a smell. fasetester ๐

No….
Go with what Ken and Jim have told you. Read and understand the articles, fit a new door seal and educate your customer. It’s a converstaion I have 4 or 5 times a day, every day.
It does work, youy just need to speak with authority.

Those WF000 sump hose traps get well bunged up sometimes, proper pong they do. Pop along there and whip it off, I would ๐
