ParticipantI have been round to friends tonight. The Cheap japanese Carlton desktop dishwasher I gave them is acting up. I haven’t seen it but he says it fills the sump with water but doesn’t start the wash cycle.
I know its early days but has anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks

Model number would get us closer………
From what you have said, I assume that the circulation motor isn’t kicking in. Two things are possible:
1/ The start/run capacitor has failed, so the motor doesn’t start. You might hear it humming gently if the ear is applied to the casing.
2/ The motor has been weeping water gently for some time due to seal failure, the motor will now be a solid block of rust. It may still hum gently, but will never run again. If 2/ is the case, the machine is scrap – I suspect it’s one of those horrible Chinese jobbies which are flooding the market at the moment. If 1/, check the value of the capacitor (-?uf) and order a replacement from http://www.spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk .
Stay safe, power off if investigating.

Sorry it is a PROLINE PDW041 if that helps. Just found it on the Comet website.

ParticipantI’ve been to see the dish washer. The dishwasher is filling continuiously and not kicking into the wash cycle. It is almost as if there is a sensor that isn’t sensing how full the machine is. I have tried advancing the clock to try an manually kicking in the wash cycle but it still keeps filling until it over flowsand I obviously hit the power button. Does anyone know where the water level sensor is, im guessing it might be dirty and not registering when it is full. When I open the door there is a sucking noise for a second or two, I dont know f that has something to do with it. The machine pumps empty ok. Im guessing it uses the same pump to wash as it does drain so Im assuming the main pump is ok.
I have tried tipping the washer on its bak incase there was an issue with a float with no joy.Any pointers will be greatful.
Thanks.

Water level is controlled by the displacement of air by the rising water from an air bell into a diaphragm switch. The chamber can block and the switch can fail.
You’re not going to get anywhere until you get the casing off and see what’s happening……
Stay safe – power off for anything other than observation.

Many many thanks. Took the lid off and discovered the “float” in the water level tank was stuck down, gave it a tap and it loosened. Pit the lid on, plumbed it in and works great
