ParticipantHello
I have a Bosch WFF 1202 washing machine. It’s about 5 or 10 years old but doesn’t get a lot of use and works without any obvious problems.
Recently I used a fairly simple inline power meters to see how much electrical power the machine was using. I noticed that when the machine was completely off there was a reading on the meter showing approx 9 watts.
What might be wrong to make it use 9W when off?
I also noticed that when the machine comes to the end of a wash and the on/off button is left in the ON position, then the power reading is zero. However after about 20 seconds, the reading goes to 9W and will stay there until I switch the mains off.
Thanks for any help.

Mains filter is permanently live unless you un-plug the appliance. It is a capacitance device, after all.

How right you are but it should not draw current when the machine is switched off!
Therefore I suggest you get the appliance and your mains power supply checked out. It could well be that within the appliance there is an earth leak or similarly in the incoming mains. Perhaps even there is a poor or none existent earth supply to the appliance? You’re not running it on an extension lead by any chance are you? 😕

Nope, it’s not on an extension lead but it is on an extended spur off the electric mains.
I’ll have a look at the mains wiring, especially the earth.
(Hope it’s not too hard!)
