ParticipantHello!
I have a Bosch SGS46E22. Even on the full wash I find that on occassion there is the odd fleck of food which does not get cleaned off. Most of the time the dishwasher cleans well. In general, my dishwasher loads are usually lightly soiled and the machine is about 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} full.
(a) The problem is usually the knives. I may have a dark brown stain left behind (about 4mm across) which I once suspected was french mustard. It is easy to shift with a little water but if I put a stained knife in the dishwasher for a second wash, it may still not come clean. I try and make sure there is space around the cutlery and I use the top “mesh†of the cutlery basket.
(b) Sometimes there are flecks of Instant Whip left in the mixing bowl it was made in.
These seem like starchy foods. I have read a few posts by people like Trilobite discussing the ingredients of the detergent : chorine bleach not going with enzymes. The detergents I am currently using are as follows.
(1) Finish powder (I’m not a great fan of this)
(2) Tesco Value tablets I got these because they were top in a Which? test
(3) Finish All-In-1 (10 Power Actions).I haven’t been scientific enough to notice which of these detergents is better or worse. Does it sound like a detergent problem?
Can you advice me please.
Thank you.

S.Hello Simon, thanks for the link!
That’s interesting info. Unfortunately it doesn’t really explain my results. I use Finish powder which is what your page gently steers me to but I don’t find it all that great. I can’t exactly put my finger on what doesn’t seem right with the results from using this powder but it’s just a general feeling.
The Tesco Value tablets (which are being discontinued) is a detergent-only tablet. So I imagine it is a sort of very straightforward “simple” powder compressed into tablet form. It doesn’t make claims to being 3-in-1 or 10-in-1 or anything-in-1! 🙂 It doesn’t contain rinse aid and doesn’t contain salt. So I see it as a sort of honorary powder!
Only occassionaly do I use the Finish All-In-1 tablet, so it doesn’t really figure all that strongly in my problem.
Is there any further info or advice? Is my problem to do with detergent at all?
TIA for any help.

ParticipantI had the same problems previously with my dishwasher when using finish powder, it just doesnt seem to do the trick at all!
SO i use these cheapy tablets now from the £1 shop they work really well.
have u checked ur filters are clean and even the fine filters are spotless.
Try taking them out and washing them under high pressure with a scrubbing brush ensure they are spotless and no dirt on them, if they are clogged up then u may find that the pump can not pull as much water through them resulting in lower pressure through the spray arms.
CHeck your filters all fit tight and snug if there are gaps then it may be spraying the dirt back up onto the plates etc.
I get brown marks left behind on some cuttlery but Im told this is down to the cuttlery itself, they are kind of like rust marks but they rub off with a scratch and a cloth. Apparently im using cheap cuttlery!
After i gave the filters a good clean and now im sticking to the cheap tablets it works fine and washes everything really well unless i have overfilled the machine.
Why are tesco value tablets being discontinued?

Almost all the information an explanation of marking is in THIS SECTION of the site.
I suspect the brown marks on the “cheap” cutlery is like food residues left on them which the primary causes of, IME, is poor quality detergent and dirty filters/spray arms.
