I we have a “Friday Afternoon” Ariston Margherita 2000 AWD12 that we’ve had for three years.. in that time the machine has been though countless mainboard’s, dryer parts and even a complete new drum!

Give the number of times Hotpoint have been out on chargeable visits, this time I thought I’d take a look myself (as I’m a time served computer engineer myself)… anyway the machine pumps constantly on the middle of the three cold feed pumps, marked EVP.

Once EVP cable has been removed the machine works fine, so my question is does anyone know what the EVP pump is for (other than to full the fabric softer/conditioner compartment), as the unit looks to be working fine now.

Given that the pumps are controlled via the mainboard, this is obviously the fault (I suspect an open relay)… however as we have a pile of washing and it been a Sunday afternoon I don’t have the time to rework the board today, so I’d like to know if that EVP pump is just for the fabric softer.

    Thanks in advance.

O/C triac on computer board. Follow the wiring back, you’ll find it.

When you mention pumps I assume you mean solenoid valves. On the washer dryers there is a 3 way valve on the cold, supplying the normal detergent compartment for wash and initial rinse cycles; the fabric conditioner compartment for final rinses; and the condensing vessel for tumble drying. With the fabric conditioner rinse solenoid disconnected the machine will stick at the start of the final rinse. It may also display an error sequence once it has detected a problem. I don’t have one of these boards to check but it may be a type of solid state switch, similar to a triac that controls the valve, rather than a relay. These are small surface mount components.

Thanks yes i do mean the solenoid valves on the cold feed inlet… I didn’t think about the rinse cycle! my wife has already started the washer… oh well.

The machine doesn’t actually stick as i’ve tested it on a short cycle, it just carries on as if nothing is missing.

I’ll look at the board once my wife has this load finished.

some good news.. just watched the current cycle ( program 8 ) and that goes to a rince which uses the normal wash fill solenoid valve. so the machine does rince fine, just softner will not fill (which doesn’t matter to us).

On other cycles the rince / softner is combined so they might not work.. but 8 is fine for now.
