Hello. I have recently started a kitchen refurb, and my cousin has generously given me an oven he bought but never used, a Diplomat ADP4810.

The problem is, it was ex-display, and did not come with instruction or a box. Therefore I do not know if I am missing any parts. Also, this is my first electric oven, so I would appreciate it if I could get some question answered:

Does anyone know where I could get an instruction manual? I tried the MFI site, but there is no reference to this model.

The oven came with a grill pan with removable handle, but it is not wide enough to fit in the metal supports either side of the grill. Is it supposed to be like that, or have I been given the wrong grill pan?

The grill pan from my old gas oven fits perfectly width-ways, but the handle prevents the door from closing. Is the grill meant to be used with the door open or closed? (The removable handle on the new grill pan has thrown me!)

    Any help would be appreciated

You might as well disregard this – The builders installed it today and it doesn’t work – the top oven seems fine (except the light flickers like mad), but the bottom oven doesn’t work at all 🙁

It could well be on automatic although I can’t be sure as I don’t know if the timer on that one cuts just the lower or both ovens.

    Info here

As for an instruction book, you’d have to pay for it I’m afraid as MFI charge for them. If you email Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk he can usually get them for people.

You were right, it was stuck in Auto mode. I held down 2 buttons and it started working.
But after a short while, it tripped the main breaker. I tried again, and it seemed to work, but it took a good 25 minutes to get to 240 degrees, and the fan (I assume for cooling down) was still running for an hour after it was turned off. It would have gone on longer, but I got annoyed by the loud noise and shut it off at the mains.

So I don’t know if it just needs a good servicing, or whether it’s knackered, or if it’s just a rubbish cooker with a loud and long-running fan.

Bah, I wish I’d stayed with gas now 🙁

    😀

    Result then, sort of. 😕

The cooling fan will run for a good long time, especially if it’s not correctly vented. You need an open “chimney” at the back of the unit to let it breath, i.e., not sealed in or it will run for an age.

Tripping the RCD, could be anything TBH but I’d suspect dampness if it hasn’t been run for a while.

Err, saying nothing bar it’s Italian by the looks of it and likely an Ardo Merloni one at that, best known in the UK for Servis. It isn’t the worst though at any rate.

Ehm, worse idea if you ask me for the most part. Electric is a LOT more stable for cooking with.

I don’t think it has a chimney. It’s built into a B&Q oven housing, which has a cupboard below, then the shelf for the oven to sit on, then another cupboard on top. I would have thought the only venting it has is in the small gaps around the edge of the oven. When the cooling fan turns on it blasts warm air through the top of the oven housing, right into your face.

I will see how it goes, and if I don’t end up using that top cupboard I may consider removing the base of it so there is nothing between the top of the oven and the cupboard for more venting.

As I said, this is my first electric oven. I haven’t actually gotten a chance to use it yet, but so far it’s been noisy and awkward, whereas my gas oven, which survived a house move and 10 years in this house (and is a none-brand basic thing) was silent and easy to use.

Oh well, I’m stuck with it now, so I’ll have to learn to use it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up cutting the power to it after each use for some peace and quiet.

    Re: Info on Diplomat ADP4810?

    Seriously…

An oven that is not properly vented is a very bad thing and will only lead to a lot of hassle and grief. Almost all these days have safety cut-offs and, if incorrectly vented, they will engage and stop the oven from working. Doesn’t matter whether it’s gas or electric, they share the same safeties.

The back of the unit should be open and there should be an air gap that allows cold air to be drawn from below and expelled above. If that is not there then there will be extended running times for the cooling fan and, very possibly, intermittent cutting out on the safety.

Sorry if that’s not good news but I’ve seen more than a few incorrectly installed over the years by muppet kitchen fitters.

I have just checked, and there is a 3″ gap running top to bottom, the width of the oven. The only thing blocking the airflow would be the plinth at the front.

The housing is made by B&Q specifically for built-in double ovens. It would seem weird if they made them with insufficient airflow.

    Re: Info on Diplomat ADP4810?

basic physics:- warm air rises 😉

the units presumably all stand on legs….so there’s a large volume of still air and plenty of gaps to feed that “reservoir2……housing has 2 tall sides which butt against the wall…and as you noted, the cupboards stop about 3” short of the wall-so you have a natural “chimney” up to the oven -hole and you “should” have a similar arrangement with any cupboard above….hot air from the oven, itself, may well vent forward directly above the oven, but if you climb up and feel over the “chimney”above the units, you should get warm air venting…….if the cupboards go right to the ceiling, without a breather-grille or vent to an extractor,etc………..poor installation, IMO……the above is far MORE critical in a gas-installation, as it MUST have a ready supply of air for combustion….and that “burned” air has to vent somewhere!

At it’s basic, an oven is just a box full of hot air (bit like me, really 😆 )
an electric one is far more efficient than a gas one, where it HAS to pass through in order to admit fresh, cold air to be heated and provide oxygen for the flame.
