Participanthi,
i would be grateful for any help with fixing an indesit widl146 washer/dryer that isn’t heating. after searching through the forums i would have thought that i need some kind of thermostat kit, however after checking with the whitegoods sales it doesn’t appear that there is one available ?, can anyone offer any advice on what i might need ?
thanks in advanceSeptember 30, 2008 at 9:06 pm #263901Phidom

Is it the wash or the tumble drying that is lacking heat?

sorry, my mistake, it’s the dryer side that isn’t working, washing is ok.
thanks..October 1, 2008 at 12:41 pm #263903Phidom

Plug out, lid off. Have a look at the wiring to the dryer heater and associated parts. Often these wires get broken by vibration. If these are OK you next need a multimeter set at a low ohms range. Each time you do a resistance check on a component you need to disconnect one or all of it’s wires otherwise you get misleading results. Check the heater which should be a few ohms. There should also be a thermal overload cutout which should read 0 ohms. The temperature control is done using an NTC which should read a few thousand ohms so may require a higher range on the meter. You can also check to make sure the fan is running as without the fan the heat won’t reach the drum.

phidom,
many thanks for the advice & sorry for the late reply.
uncovered the fan and found it to be completely caked with rubbish as was the outlet from the fan, cleared everything out but alas the problem remains. all wires seem to look ok, and i tried the meter on the heater which seems to be ok, but wasn’t sure what/where the thermal overload cutout was so couldn’t check that.
i think it’s now probably best if i get someone out to have a look, but thanks again for the helpOctober 7, 2008 at 7:18 pm #263905Penguin45

message to say thanks for all your help, tested the TOC which was open and have just received the replacement from whitegoods which has worked a treat and fixed the problem.
thank-you. -
